Yes! therefore you should give them all to me :P ;)

Hi CM:
Some of the floats look like balsa ones. If so, how do you drill the center hole and is it difficult to do? Do you ruin any when you drill?
Thanks.
-
That is a very serious addiction you have there ChromeMykiss. Better give them to me for proper disposal. :D
What's the name of the fat float on the extreme left in the second row ? I have a few of those. I'm currently using their little brothers for steelheading. I believe they were made locally about 10 years back. Great floats.

wow
-
take some pics ;D
-
Have you used every float at least once?
-
I've been in that room, its like a mini tackle shop. Then there's my basement. :o
-
Norm,
I cut my balsa into 1-2"square x 3-5" long blocks, mark the center of the blocks on both ends of the balsa and use a lathe type drill press set up to drill the hole. I usually use a very small drill bit like a 1/16" or 1/8", but they are long like 8-12" to drill the hole. At first I ruined a few pieces, but with trial and error I don't ruin anymore pieces now :P
FA,
Did you buy yours or find them? The ones I have are made by my father ;D Here's a closer look at them (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/albums/album03/FFloats.thumb.jpg) (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/member/gallery/album03/FFloats)
Floater,
No, I have not used all of them, in case you didn't notice its kinda hard to use that Drennan Zeppler thats still in the plastic bag ;) I probably won't be using any of those floats, those are all part of my collection and I have plenty of other floats to use. For example the Fred Badjura cork floats, they are just too valuable to be used.
-
Upon closer examination they are not the ones your father made. I bought mine's from Bob's Sporting about 10 years ago and I still have about 18 left. I don't know what they're made from but it's definitely not cork or balsa. They seemed to have been poured. In any event they are very light and sensitive.
-
FA,
Do they look like this one? ???
(http://www.fishingwithrod.com/albums/album03/MoldedFloat.thumb.jpg) (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/member/gallery/album03/MoldedFloat)
That float appears to be made of liquid foam that was shot into a mold.
-
Has anyone used the cork floats made my "Corker". Has to be one of the best floats ive ever used. Personally i prefer cork floats because they are WAY more durable then the Drennan and also are sensitive . Any feed back?

YES ! Do you know if they make it anymore ?
-
FA,
No, I don't know if they are made anymore. I found that one on a small stream on Northern Vancouver Island, thats the only one I've ever seen :-\ They look durable and perfect for fast choppy water.
-
If you want more floats from fred b I could hook you up...
-
Chrome Mykiss, would you like another one of those liquid foam floats for your collection ? I have one of the "fat" floats which was designed for use on the Thompson and a slimmer version (4") for the local rivers. PM me your name and address if interested.
-
I've been fishing cork floats for a while now, shaping them on my rod building lathe, roughly in the shape of a drennan. tough to find reasonably priced solid cork for this job so i have been using undrilled rodbuilding cork rings and epoxy and setting them in a press till they set, still with the cost of the cork they are nearly 10$$ floats, but they fish sooooo well.
i also use a float from a guy in new york for smaller flows like suicide or capilano, they are balsa, top notch floats, is what they are called... love em and have made a few of my own now.
-
Anyone know of a source of Balsa large enough for turning floats? Windsor Plywood sells some but price is = gold.

I was in Bob's today, and I'm pretty sure he still has those floats.

Did you buy floats or balsa from e-bay?

Hi FA,
I've got a few of those chubby floats too from 15 years ago. Still see them occationaly but recent made seems longer.
-
Yes, they are pretty good floats. I don't think he makes them anymore.
