Hi,Fish Assassin, the kingfisher is the most popular at the river side, you can see a lot of fishermen using it,(retail approx $399),even trophy had a copy of same looks, but if money is not an object,i will stick with the talisman(retail approx$650).they both are a good piece of craftmanship.Hope this will help you out

I'm leaning towards the Talisman. May have to sell one of my Silex and Islander to help finance it.

I have heard good things about the Talisman.

What kind of Silex do you have? There is the Super, the Super Jewel, THE SILEX, The Superba, etc..

Is it in good condition?

What price would you like for it?

I have THE SILEX, and I love it. I would like another.

I am also looking for a McDonald, but it doesn't seem like anyone ever wants to sell a McDonald.

I have The Silex. It's in mint condition. At this point, I'm undecided to sell it or just keep it as a backup

If you do decide to sell it, please send me a PM. I will give you a very fair price for it.

Thanks.

I have a kingfisher...Its a great reel and spins forever.  After reading this little paper I got with my reel 2 years ago it says parts of the talisman is made up of 20k gold :o :o

If true, that would in part explain the cost. ;D

I prefer the Kingfisher myself, because of the narrow drum and large arbor design. If you get a Kingfisher, get the 4 3/8" model, which is ideal for most steelheading conditions except maybe for the Thompson  :P  The Talisman is a fully caged reel, much like a Silex, with a slightly wider drum. When comparing the two, the Kingfisher can spin with less lead than a Talisman. The Kingfisher is also lighter in weight than a Talisman  ::)  However, the Talisman has a 10 year warranty while the Kingfisher only has a 2 year warranty  :(

Good information Chrome MyKiss. One thing that I didn't consider that someone told me is that the caged reel offers a bit more protection if you bang the Silex or Talisman against the rocks.
