Title: Planning on Squamish River Dec. 27
Post by: BwiBwi on December 26, 2005, 12:29:56 AM
Family plan to see the bold eagle on coming Tue.
And I plan to put some fishing time in.
What type of fish can I expect?

Thank you

Probably bull trout.

I just checked the hydrograph and it is VERY high (close to 6m)! The ideal level for fishing is between 1.5 and 2.5m, so it may not be very good on the 27th. Usually even if it drops down fast, and it usually does, the river remains fairly silty unless the freezing level is very low. I would give it around a week after a high discharge before start fishing it again.

The target species would be bull trout, the odd cutthroat trout and rainbow trout. In March and April, you might find some winter steelhead but the return number is much lower compared to the Chilliwack/Vedder River system. The bull trout range between 2 and 4lb, but it's not unusual to get fish that are twice the size of those.

So, how bold are those bald eagles? ;)
