As most Regions open tommorrow its time to put the rod down for just a little bit and pick up the Rifle or shot gun.. Mind you some hunting spots also have the best fishiing... What are your plans this year... Are you going for Deer, Moose... FIshing and hunting at the same time.. What are your weapons of choice....

I am going for deer..nothing too big.
-
leaving tomorrow after work , me and the dog are going up for deer, have been scoping out a nice herrd that will hopefully be around come monday mornin. October will be moose, grizz and more deer.

My fishing pals and I were discussing hunting the other day. We were thinking it might be fun to go for some birds, perhaps ducks, geese, or upland game such as grouse etc. Not really into larger game at all.
I've been reading a bit online, trying to find a BC hunting site sorta like Rod's here or the FishBC page, but to no avail.
Wondering if any of you experienced dudes might know where to point me in the right direction for bird hunting here in BC.
I guess we will have to get our Federal firearms permits, plus the BC hunting course?
(i can forsee spending alot more money)

go to huntshoot.com , not sure if they are still up and running but i was a forum member there last year

hunting is a sport that people arent that open lipped about it.... either that or i have had people mis direct me which isnt cool at all...
i am thinking of going up to squamish but i havnet seen any deer or grouse there in years... anyone see any up there?
-
I've always wanted to try grouse hunting with a shotgun.
Shotgun ? You won't have much to eat after you remove all the buckshots. ;D
-
i just picked myself up a little 410 for the grouse... hope it works well
-
there may be a few resident deer around squamish, no doubt VERY wary of people. I would wait till frost is hitting around pemberton then try squamish area, the deer should be on the move through there by 1st week of october. Blacktails are a tough deer to hunt, if you find one of thier migration routes though, they will be there year after year.
-
I dream of shooting one in squamish... my dad has tried so many times and has had no luck..... i was in chiliwack last year when it was open for 4 point and got into a 2 point. I didnt shoot obviously but what an amazeing sight when the deer saw me. He lept for miles...

many of the blacktails from the upper lilloet valley migrate above squamish and pemberton, up hurley pass, but again, best time to hunt them is october. ambush tactics seem to produce better than the walk and stalk like we typically do for mulies. Blackies are as spooky as white tails and will simply vanish if they get an inkling that somethings up. find deer trails with major sign and sit on them.

;D ;D
You wanna kill a deer in Squamish, just ask Rodney how to do it.
OK so it wasn't really hunting, but he killed it, nevertheless.
:P :P

I went out september first to hunt for the first time, I went to the kootenys and holy crap are there alot of whitetail's.
I dident manage to bag any elk but i did get my first deer (spike fork whitetail) :).
if you dont mind the drive you should try plumbob mtn in the east kootenys ALOT of whitetail, elk and in the areas around it black and grizly bears.
also if you plan to go to the kootenys bring a big gun (bowhunting or not) cause everyone who hunts there that ive talked too has a grizzly story where that had to shoot a charging grizz. next time i go i gotta have a 12 guage slug gun.
-
I'm curious to how Rod killed it... I'm guessing a little driving accident...
or was it a deadly spoon w/ a treble hookthat got swallowed ;D

back from the peaks south of coquihalla summit. Looks like the bucks we scouted in late august have moved already. I think winters coming early..... late august glassing the slopes at 5200 ft revealed 13 mulie bucks, 7 were 4pt or better and 30 some odd does. opening week.... 3 does and 1 grouse..... and we scoured the mountains with my chevy and two sets of good binos. The deer were just gone.... i would be watching the slopes and draws around Tulameen right now as that's where they will show up
