Hey guys... I have a friend who lives in a region that produces alot of prawns.. He brought me about 10 pounds of prawns but because of B.C ferries and car trouble they seem to have gone bad... any idea what i should do with them.. I just dont want to throw them away.... they are frozen but i can smell them already.. Should i use them for bait... anyone know if sturgeon will eat them.... please let me know what to do...

Hey get some procure and prep for fishing.
Or you can get a meshnet put those prawn in and use as crab bait.
-
they have the shell on still so to prep them for fishing i would have to take the shell off right?? what would bit them... Maybe iwill just take them crab fishing.. I just hate it cause i dont have a boat and people on the docks look at you funny with a bunch of prawns in the trap...

You can leave the shells on if you want.
-
Ok but prep them for what.... what fish eats large prawns... or are you just saying do it for crabs..
-
Ya, I know that feeling. The first time I went to crabing with mackerel they laughed. But then after they see we reached limit in 15 min. they want to know where we got those. I tried prawns before too it works well.
I've been lazy. I usually just put the prawn in add food colouring and shake well, then add salt. leave it for a few hours in shade. Afterwards pack them in small quantities. Take a bag to fish whenever needed. Perch, sole, greenling, dogfish, herring, trout, bass... loves it.

Oh, depends on the fish size. You might want to bring a scissor along.
-
hmmmm.... sounds like alot of work... maybe i will jus go crabbing one night when not many people are around... They smell pretty bad so i would have to do it soon....wonder if salmon would take it ..

If they smell I would just throw them away.
-
Hmm but if you are thinking of throwing them away freeze it first and take out the morning garbage truck comes. Or you'll be picking up after craw and cats have a feast.
Then again if they smell bad. Freeze them take it out to crabbing. It'll do wonders. But you might have to wait a good half an hour at least for them to thaw out.
