While out crabbing today in the Indian Arm we saw two boats parked side by side, thought they were dive boats at first, but when we got closer we noticed that there was a big cage in the front of one of the boats which contained a huge seal or sealion. Does anybody know what thats all about?? are they trapping them or releasing them or something?? on the side of the boats it had the words "steller" something.

I would suspect that they are releasing it.

That would be Steller Sea Lion-which is somewhat rare now for a number of reasons.
They are the huge fat ones not the fat ones that swim up from California to gorge on Oolies @ the mouth of the Fraser in Spring.

Yup that would be what I saw, pretty big animal. Just wondered if they were catching them? or releasing them there, only saw one of them in a cage. I remember once in Victoria working near the water I kept wondering what all the noise was, walked down to the shore only to see a huge group of them sunning themselves on the rocks and making alot of noise.
