some friends were talking about bassa fish being on the market and what it tasted like. what kind of fish is bassa? thanks

Short for bandsaw and is salted bass ;D.

It's white fleshed and can be found in the frozen fish department at Super Store.

tasted really close to sole but a touch firmer....  Its great for pan fry with lemon pepper or poach in a cream sauce.

It's Farmed Catfish-sometimes from Vietnam sometimes from the southern USA.

My fish is from singapore where bassa is quite popular.  I have only ever had it as skinned fillets, I would be surprised if it turned out to be a catfish. 

All I can tell you is that is is a tasty fish with frim white flesh, we actually have som in the meet keeper right now!

I had some basa last night, and the guy saying they were cat fish got me thinking...here's a pic any how:

They are kinda catfish looking, its no wonder they sell them skinned and filleted.  Largest source now iis indeed aqua culture.

I enjoyed my meal al the same, tasty little fish!
