Title: River Anchors

Does anyone have any plans or picture of a river anchor as i want to build one..

This is the Fraser river standard.  The chain attaches permanently to the base of the anchor.  You zap strap it at the top.  If the anchor gets stuck, you can break the zap strap and the anchor can be pulled straight up and out.

Can you let me know where and how much it costs you for the material...... I have looked into it at a place in Langley and it was going to cost me about 60 bucks, whick I thought was a little too much.  Lost two anchors last year and would like to find a less expensive way other than buying an anchor at hubs

i have several anchors like the one in picture if interested $30.00  apiece they would be good for 14ft plus. anchor weight 30-40 lbs.

Is there a "rule of thumb" for the length of chain to use? Last spring I made a couple of anchors very similar to the last one pictured but I only had 4' of chain. The anchors I made were pretty damn heavy but we still had a challange to occationally stay put at Grassy and Pegleg in a light 16' aluminum. I suspect the chain length was the problem. I suspect a longer chain acts as a shock absorber or wave dampener. To make our boat stay put I had to lengthen the anchor rope longer than everyone elses. I've looked at a lot of anchors and my two should be holding jet boats. The tine angle relative to the upright post looks pretty much the same. Any help for us newbie anchormen would be appreciated.

Rule of thumb for chain length? chain should be the length of you boat and with a anchor like the one in the pic that ways 30 to 40 pounds you will stick anywhere you anchor...........
