Title: Need a First Steelhead!
Post by: BigFisher on January 28, 2005, 10:51:27 AM
Iv been out to the Vedder 3-4 times, trying to catch my first steelhead. But havent been able to do so yet. But yesterday some friends asked me if i wanted to do a fishing clinic at freds tackle, so i decided id try it. Id heard the instructure Peter Macpherson was one of the top fishers on the Vedder R, from my buddy. I was just woundering if any of you know if hes as good as im told and hopefully with his help and my luck i can get one.

Took the clinic with pete last year, and ended up with seven steelies during the season on my own, well worth it.

Pete is top notch. He looks after the details and will give you a lot of information and practical experience that can cut a lot of time off the learning curve. As far as your first steelhead, get in line. I practically live on the river and have only one huge wild one this year to date. You have to put in your time !

How can he show you a hot spot when the river is constantly changing?

Don't know the guy, but sounds great.  My first experiences were very similar, watched and listened and tried and tried!  Bam finally hooked one and then ended up with 5 my first season.  Beginners luck though as it has tailed off the last two but unfortunately I dont get the opps that you guys do but soon I promise myself.  Lots of great guys willing to share their ideas and some even tell the truth!!  Hey guys what do u think is the average amount of trips for one steelie!  I know, I know some of you guys get one every trip! But reallly they do call them the fish of a thousand casts.
