Gee...this sounds like the NHL negoatiations :D

What negotiations ? ;D

hey roe kid, you're better off going to a consignment store like sports replay. if you go to a pawn shop, you'll end up getting next to nothing for your gear. ebay is probably your best option.

Get them appraised first. Try Anglers West on Broadway or any other
well-known and reputable tackle store.
There are some characters out there
who will rob you. It happened to me several years ago (my fault for not doing research) I only mention it because they are still in business.

For the interest of those who noted CF's post:
The Jewel was one of the finest centerpins produced by Hardy. Manufactored from 1954 to 1959, it succeeded the Super Silex and was one of the last Hardy reels with machined integral parts. A very durable reel and highly prized by B.C. steel-headers. It was produced in three sizes, 3 3/4-inch, 4-inch and 4 1/2-inch. I am a tad unsure of what these would fetch today, but suffice it to say, a hun likely wouldn't form a downpayment. Here's a pix of a 4 & 1/2 inch made in 1957:

The Major was produced from 1923 through 1952, and also offered a jewel bearing. It too came in three sizes, and was quite the desireable item for chasing steel. Here's a pix of a 1920 production Major:

Again, I'm unsure of just what these might go for in today's market. I have taken the liberty of checking the approximate value with a couple of collectors for both reels. NEED TO KNOW: What sizes, year of manufactor (serial # can determine) are the ones you have CF?? That will make a difference they say. Will report back with findings once they're in. Pix would also help. PM or E if you prefer.
Now, so as not to completely hijack this thread: RoeKid, the price on your set-up is quite reasonable. Given that steelhead season is just upon us, I'm certain that listing the rod 'n reel in any of the fishing forums Buy 'n Sell posting will elicit a reasonably fast response. DON'T take it to a pawn shop, they're in the business of capitolizing on others misfortune, and will lowball you every time. Good luck!
Cheers,
Nog

reeler's advice is good.
One time I had a Sage 3113 MB I was thinking of selling and another guy I knew was lookiong for one.
I figured I'd ask $150 and get about $120.
The Len Marshall @ Berry's told me that they were selling for $300 and more!
He was right I put it in the B&S and got $350!

hehe if this kid wasn't fighting it out with wcb right now you would of had that jewel sold in seconds if your ever strapped for cash my offer still stands :p
-
HAHA CASEY I CALL UR OFFER AND RAISE YOU 75$
-
i know what the reel is worth...i would like to buy it the jewel that is..

A friend just bought an old silex (still in great shape) for a dollar. He brought it to work and he was the envy of all. Lucky guy.
He got it from an old man having a garage sale. Apparently the guy tried to sell it at last years garage sale but was unsuccesful.

If you find the right buyer, the sky's the limit. You must be getting offers by now.
Those things usually go very quickly. If they are what you say , you should have a couple grand extra for Christmas cheer,
Good Luck
