Title: NFR - Who would you vote for?
Post by: Fishin Freak on November 01, 2004, 06:18:50 AM
I thought that this would be an interesting poll to have to see on what side FWR people lay. As i'm sure you all know the election is being held tomorrow and the outcome of who's elected could impact our lives in several different ways. What president would you rather see elected and do you think either could really affect our fishing in any way (through various policies)? Who do you think is a better leader for America or the world?

I already voted for Kerry.  (we can do that in Oregon).  If Bush wins you may find me crashing your border.

Global Television did a survey this weekend on Canadians on who they would vote for.(if they could)  Kerry won this hands down: I believe by 75%. No contest

That's probably why this left wing frenzy country keeps bringing the Liberals back to power every election.

My thoughts are more along the lines of who would Canada benefit more from.  Kerry is just as if not more protectionist than Bush so we could suffer more in the long run.  On the other hand, Bush has shown that he is more than willing and able to snub us.  So, do you pick a known evil or an unknown evil?  Regardless of whoever wins, I don't honestly believe that Canada will be any better off.  Nader doesn't have a chance of winning so it all comes down to the lesser of two evils. Between Arnie (the terminator, governor of California) and Kerry, you will likely see a slow down in the BC film industry (with the rising loonie, it's already happening) as they strive to keep US dollars from flowing north.  But then again, Bush has shown us time and time again that he doesn't want to do business with us.  As to who is the better leader?  They're all kind of goofy if you ask me.

I'm more set on what I saw on "This hour has 22 minutes" last friday.

They interviewed Kerry briefly and all he had to say about Canada is "I hope you bring hockey back soon..."

But honestly, when Bush gets out of a plane and claims "Europe, it's an excellent country" I wouldn't have much more faith in a man that can't recognize 7 continents versus over a hundred or Earth's countries...

It's not encouraging either way

For anyone following this, I've been looking at the posts on the Thorn Tree's political branch, and from what I'm reading there, Kerry is about to win this election.  Here is a link for anyone interested:  go to the Talk Politics Branch.  It's down the page a ways.  You don't need to log in to read it.  http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/categories.cfm?catid=43

Yep, looks like you're right, fishin freak.  I'll just hope you know something I don't, and the next four years don't see us turn into . . . .well, let's see how it works out.

Some of my disgruntled co-workers are asking me where's a good place to live in Canada.   :o

Looking at the electoral map, the west coast states voted for Kerry (blue states), as well as most of the Great Lakes states and the Northeast.  The rest is solid red for Bush.

Yep, DragonSpeed, I been thinking that a lot today.  I started in Mexico a couple of years after my country overwhelmingly chose Nixon over McGovern.  Trouble is, most of the fun part (building it, making it work) is already done.  I'm planning to spend a bunch of time there, but I'm thinking now maybe I should try something north of the border, like maybe the Bella Coola Valley (canyon?)  Or?  I still have a lot of exploring to do.
