This last weekend, I had the opportunity to fish the Harrison River from a buddy's jet boat (normally I'm one of the many that casts from shore on other rivers).
We noticed that there were quite a few boats anchored in the middle of the river with lines in the water out back.
Can anyone tell me what the specifics of this method is? We tried hanging our lines out the back with various amounts of weight with different lures but were not sure what we doing.
Thanks in advance. :D

I've been told not to use the "S" word when refering to the harrison. Probably bar rig set up's for Harrison Chinook. (spin & glo's). Or they're fishing for "S".

Is this just below the Harrison Bridge ? If so, they were probably fishing for sturgeons. Saw couple of sturgeons caught.

Probably sturgeon, but it wouldn't surpise me if they were dropping bars for chinooks, I've never done it, but don't know why it wouldn't work.
Did you happen to notice the sizes of rods and reels that they were using ? This would usually give away what they were going for. Big levelwinds for sturgeon (one handle on the reel), and smaller reels for salmon (2 handles). Also, short rods are for sturgeon, longer rods for salmon. But these are VERY general guidelines on gear.
btw...what's the "S" word, or shouldn't I be asking...

Wanting to (salmon) fish the Harrison but we were unsure of where to go in that big river.
Where are the areas for:
- bottom bouncing / float
- cast & retrieve (ie. spinners)
Thanks in advance. :D

You can fish just east of the Harrison River bridge or just in front of the golf course. If you have a jet boat, go upstream towards the mouth of the Chehalis. There are tons of fish up there right now.
