Title: merritt to hope?
Post by: canoe man on October 08, 2004, 08:56:11 PM
well it looks like i gonna be spending this weekend acting as support vehicle for a bunch of army cadets travelling from merritt to hope via the kettle valley rail way trail
they are on bikes and im driving the support vehicle with check points along the way
question do i bring my rod, its been along time since i was in this neck of the woods
are there any lakes along this trail?
as i think the coqahalla river is out of bounds so to speak, but im of to check lol

Hi Canoeman,

The Coldwater River is open and is rumoured to have trout in it.  A buddy and I stopped and fished this summer near the Coldwater exit (256?) off the Coquihalla, but it was low and clear and not fishy at all.  I think the lower sections nearer to Merritt might be better if you can find access.

Falls Lake is close to the trail too but is a short hike.  I know it has trout.

Good luck...

Raining up there now! Not much in the Coldwater! Have made a few trips to it and have never caught or even seen trout.  Talked to others who have experienced the same!  Looks good though! Might be a few salmon around.  River might even be closed??

When you get near the Cherry Creek road, or if you travel the Tulemeen Main, you can go up Youngsberg, just north of Otter Lake and get to the Pike Mountain Lakes. You should have a tube or boat, and the road is a bit hairy just before the first lake (Ricky).

Or, near Brookmere there is Andy and Brook.

Get an Outdoors Mapbook or similar because there are quite a few options for ya

Don't know how close you will be to Murray Lake. Give it a try if you like the fly. Jeeze...I should be a poet.

Take the Julliet exit then follow frontage road on left of Coq till you find the sign. Rough road in but a short distance. Electric only.

well i just got back in and wow what a trip
we had 25 cadets on the trip so i had no time to fish  :(
but i did get to scout out a bunch of cool areas
the coldwater river is very shallow for the most part
but along the kettle valley railway you do come across some really nice deep pools
next springs trip will definitley invovle a rod  ;)
thanks to all the people working to put this trail together its an awsome experience
will post a few pics later
