Title: No Fish?????
Post by: Hiker on October 03, 2004, 11:48:39 PM
Does anybody remember this bad season in a recent past? I find that there is much less fish in all rivers I usually go to (Vedder, Cap, Fraser) than previous 5-6 years. Not looking at my fishing skills which are not the best, but seeing that only few fish have been caught by other people on these rivers. I hope this is not the begining of the end for salmon fishery for all of us. Was reading some analysis today which are saying if warm weather (global warming) keeps on, salmon would most likely stop coming this much south and settle for rivers much more up north of BC. Any thoughts about this?

Wait for the anticipated rains later this week. Your gloom and doom will be replaced by whether to bonk your limit or continue catch and release.

I honestly hope so. Though, earlier septembers with even higher temps, and lower water levels produced more fish.

Rain in the rivers will make the difference.  Yes, it has been this bad before.  Remember, it's only Oct. 4th!  I've caught chrome Coho in late Dec.  Slim pickin's, but there there if you want them.  This weekend will be the start after 3 days of rain leading up to it.  The water will also colour a bit, maybe a lot.  The forcast is for light rain so it should be a good weekend.

Not sure what analysis you were reading but salmon return to their natal river to spawn, where ever that may be, they don't simply choose one thats further north, far as I know.

Salmon goes into rivers where they came from, but you can not find Salmon in San Francisco. Reason for this is that water temps are too high for this fish to survive it so much on South. The "source" of my information is a panel in Science World. Was going there last weekend and noticed a huge display that was talking about an effect global warming could have on local fish population. They even said that salmon could be replaced - I guess in ocean only - by Tuna and some other warmer waters fish species. It just made me think if there are people more knowledgable than I am on this site who could share their opinion.

Well I don't want to see any salmon runs displaced...but just imagine for a minute...a run of yellowfin tuna in the vedder...that would rock!

I wounder if they like roe, wool, or spinners! ;)
