Title: Rod guide replacement

My venerable spinning rod, that has caught scores of cutthroat, walleye and bass, is finally starting to show it's age. After 17+ years of use the tip guide is notched from the line.

Any suggestions how to remove the guide from the rod tip so that I can replace it? I have an extra tip guide laying around so that I'd try and do it myself befor I pay Stryker the couple of bucks to do it for me.

Use a cigarette lighter and warm the tip. It should easily pull off.

For a temporary repair you can put some glue gun shavings in the tip guide and heat it up and stick it on the rod. It holds surprisingly well, but it is still no where near as good as epoxy or rod cement.

A candle works a little better than a lighter, alowing you to use both of your hands. As for attaching the new tip ferrule cement works the best. Most tackle shops supply it.
