Was out today. A few casts in - spring on! A couple good head shakes and runs.. my leader breaks. A few casts later- spring on strong fish big run.. leader breaks again#*!! WHAT! Retie my 20lb leader. 10min later spring on again! This one looks good, still on after 5 min then pow! Main line breaks!! What the ###**!! 50 lb fire line. Retie everything, check for nicks in line.. all looks good. 10min later fish on!! Whoooa peeling off line fast, torpedoing just under the surface. 15 min later I have in control moving it into a calm pool and my line goes tight. Awww man. I'm on a snag now! My friend wades in and kicks the submearged snag free and my fish is still on. The fish is dead tired, I just have to pull it in to shore... hook comes out. NOOOOOO! Well after that catch and release gently two sockeye. My buddy who has'nt hooked one all day gets and lands a 19lb red spring. Time to go. Those are the breaks. Good day all around anyway.

hi bug pumper, atleast you hooked some fish :) was there lots of people?
-
did u have a boat>?? which side were u fishing?? top bottom...

Got to peg leg a lil late, in the afternoon. Seems like everybody was gone by then. Alot of people from down south camping. Saw 1 spring landed. Released 2 socks for 2 different guys(one each). Nothing for me today.
Tried the bar rig thing. Lost it to a nest. How the h#ll do you guys toss those things out without getting the leader twisted with the main line? Or do you just plop it out infront of you? My 20oz weight was bouncing down the river! We had 2 hits on a chartreuse SG, both times the fish slammed it so hard the leader broke. :o (with a bit of orange wool).
Were there nets out? The spring we saw had markings all over.
Left with some coiled line and various junk left by other users.
Was interesting trying something new.

Dan, no I didn't have a boat. I was fishing the east side, where you drive in. Thinking about going tomorrow afternoon.
-
Also, there was a girl there who I thought was fishin chick. But no, just some other cutie. Not many people, especially after the rain.
-
hehe...seems I am everywhere, yet nowhere.... remember guys, I'd be the LOUD MOUTH girl at the bar. (fishing bar, that is) ;D ;D ;D
-

-
Loud mouth? Well there's been this big blond there for a few weeks now... Going tomorrow?

Also you either are casting out too far, the rocks are too small for your lead to hang on to, too heavy of line as the heavier it is the more drag of course or finally you are fishing too fast of water.
We find 25 pound test main works ok.
Keep at it. ;D ;D
-
sorry guys, no leader tying for me tomorrow, goin to go help my lil sis clean up her new house out in victoria....heard the fishins pretty good there too....too bad i wont have the time.
by the way BN, as I do recall, that day i met you, I went home with 2 fish, you only had one.... ;D
bug pumper....I'd make a funny looking blond, seeing as I'm Japanese. :P

Thanks guys, I had an inverted pyramid 20, and a block 14. The 14 seemed to bounce faster than an 8, weird.
Didn't have a rod holder so we were holding the rods. Were quite surprised at how hard they were hit. Perhaps the twisting with the main may have created some nicks in the leader. ??? Gunna make a rod holder in my spare time :) That should be fun. I heard DS had a time with his.
Will have to look into these "knuckle dusters" as the only ones I have now are for the fly rod.
Was that a net down at the bottom of the parking side of the bar? I thought it was a floating fish until I noticed it was still there when I left.
P.S. The fishing in the afternoon wasn't "Great". Peaceful however :D
Only saw 3 socks flossed. 1 spring. (and the 2 that broke)

A easy rod holder to make.
Two to 3 foot long angle iron, sharpen one end.
2 to 3 inch diameter 15 inch long or so PVC pipe.
Duct tape to tape PVC pipe to angle iron.
You are then ready to roll
Red Green will be very happy with your piece of work. ;D
Not fancy but we used them that way for years until everyone got fancy.
-
Being Japanese does't seem to stop people from being blond, blue, green....
-
Chris:
Are you talking about Red Green the person or are you suggesting a very productive color SG? ;D
-
Well the half and half that is good at this time of year is more yellow and red. ;D
Someone should be able to post a pix of it for you.
Just got in with 50 dew worms for the cuttys. ;D

Perhaps the twisting with the main may have created some nicks in the leader. ???
Don't be afraid to use heavier leader than main line. When I started I broke some 25 pound leaders on fish, and this has never happened fishing techniques than bar fishing even with much lighter leaders. I now use 30 pound main and 40 pound leader.
The other problem I had when I started, that I still see other do is have trouble setting the hook. Grabbing the rod and starting to reel sometimes works, but I now find it best to lift the rod high above my head and run away from the river.
Have fun :)

If Dragonspeed's rod holder building demonstration yesterday could have been filmed Red Green would buy the rights to use it in his show.
Dragonspeed started off with a 5' piece of angle iron, a piece of pvc pipe, some duct tape and a hack saw. He then proceeded to cut it down to 4'. After the first cut he was already perspiring and breathing quite heavily. We all gave him a hard time and he said that as a network admin the small finger exercises were not enough to keep him in shape. DS was almost ready to give up when he found out two more cuts were required to make a sharp point at one end. But he perservered and continued to saw away.
Now the real entertainment began. DS produced a 1" diam pvc pipe and someone said "Are you sure the rod butt will fit in that tiny pipe?" Sure enough it was too small and the laughter continued. Then the search began for an alternate to the pipe. Fortunately, Canoeman had beans for breakfast and the rod holder was finally completed by duct taping the bean can to the angle iron.
On a more serious note, hose clamps work really well instead of duct tape for the design that Chris suggested. That is how I built my holder and it works really well. You can get the parts for under $10 at Home Depot.

well most springs ive seen taken at peg this year have come from the mid section where there is a small ilsand still. last year most springs came from the very top end but the water was much lower then and there was a big spit exposed that people were on. im still getting to know the place so ??? let me know if ya find it lol cnm
-
I thought that once socks finished it would be dead at Peg! Guess not as you guys seem very busy! Maybe I dont need my trout flies yet??? Are there still lots of springs going through?
-
Loved the story FishOn. ;D ;D
Yes the clamps work well and have used them, forgot until you mentioned it.
-
Still bar hopping Chris?
