Mom cooked dinner. Atlantic Salmon fillets from Costco... Did I just eat farm fish? Atlantic salmon would be a species we don't have in our rivers right?
But is it farmed here? Like 14 bucks a kilo, plus it didn't say wild on it. I imagine if it were wild it would be put on the label as a selling point. AM I GOING TO DIE!?! heheh
Seriously though, info would be appreciated.

Yes, it's farmed fish probably from BC
-
I read somewhere that Health Canada put a limit of 2 per year of farmed salmon as the suggested maximum consumption. :P
CJ.
( sorry no source... I will try to remember )
-
I recall something about that too CJ
-
as such, I'm still wondering what sockeye tastes like.
Me too. ;D
And I dare you to talk into my mothers house and tell her you aren't eating what she puts in front of you.... Oh do I have some stories.

Somtimes, Its common for farmed salmon to have artificial color added so the salmon's flesh turns a nice orange-red colour. The colour is supposedly added to the fish pellets which the salmon eat. Its government approved to be safe for human consumption.

yes ...because i really trust the government to dictate to me whats "safe for human consumption"
maybe a class action lawsuit against the guvmint, by parties affected by the "pink/orange dye #7" is in order. hell , maybe even lawsuit just because the feds are idiots is in order.

I wouldn't worry too much about the salmon fat. It's the omega 3 fats, good for your heart.

DON'T P**S OFF MOM. Always eat what is put in front of you. If you do otherwise, you run the risk of depleating your Christmas inventory to a point that would not be satisfactory :'(
I always say "thanks for the hagis Mom. It was delish" :-X

on they way home from boxing my friend saw a bumper sticker yesterday taht said, "wild salmon don't do drugs" he didn't undertsand at all what that meant, he was making fun of it until i told him. it just shows how the general public isn't very educated on this topic
-
I have had farmed fish and found it to taste fine....it is fatty as hell thought.
If you look at a fillet in the store, anything that has those thick white layers of fat between the musle layers is probably a farmed fish! I thought the recommended limit on farmed was under 1lb a week or something like that.
-
heard on the news on the way to work this mroning they tested farmed salmon and found some flame retardant chemicals in them??? forget the full name, will try to find out.
-
I think the suggestion was something like 6oz. 2x per week.
-
Another report in the morning paper said that wild chinook salmon has some contaminants as well. This time with PBDE's or fire retardent chemicals. ??? I'll still keep eating fish but it makes you wonder.

My thought is wild, since it's from a fishing website :D
-
It looks wild..... and delicious. But I haven't grilled enough farmed salmon to be able to tell otherwise.
-
all i want to know is can you bbq fish that has fire retardent in it and grumman haggis is delish .
-
I say it's wild, less fat. (and less filling)
