Hi, I'm new to this site, and I'm looking for a great place to fish, preferably river fishing. I'm in the Vancouver area, looking for a place to catch some Sockeye and Spring Salmon. Could someone recommend a place and spot that I could fish at which is within a 2 hours drive?
Also, are there any suggestions for bait aside from wool or Salmon Roe? I've been using both, but haven't had much luck lately at the Vedder River.
Thanks.

welcome cokeboy enjoy this board. try herrling island or laidlaw as they seem to produce some nice fish. pegleg out in the chilliwack area is a good spot also. ;) i suggest you drink pepsi though as a real fisherman drinks pepsi ;D ;D(just kidding) :D ;) :)

I've heard that I should fish at this "pegleg" place, but I have no idea where it is!! ahhhhhh :)
Could you maybe help me out?

You should be able to find the direction to peg leg here:

Thanks for all your help guys. It took me a while, but I did find the Peg Leg. There was a massive amount of people, I couldn't believe it. It seemed like every 5 minutes someone would have a fish on. Despite the spot is overcrowded, I can see why. It is a sand based site which is ideal for camping and fishing. Thanks again for your help :)

Is it possible that all these guys yelling "Fish On", simply were snagged on someone ELSE's line? Common problem when fishing is dense. Or, did you actually see a fish being landed about every 5 minutes?

Note to self...All of the fish are at Pegleg.

Yeah - they stop there, and just mill around, hoping to get a date, and not have to go all the way to their original spawning grounds. The whole party atmosphere is too much for them to pass up :D:D:D

DragonSpeed, actually yeah... There were two instances where I had to re-rig up my line, and during those times a number of people would pull in a fish. I found it strange, but then again, there were a lot of people fishing along this part of the river, probably about 70+ people.

I'm sorry, I have to admit...
I crack up when I see one of those guys get so excited and yell "Fish on" only to find out they snagged someone else's line. And here they are tugging and so excited; and then you see the other guy looking up, perplexed & wondering what the heck is up with HIS line....
Oh, if I had only brought my video camera I could laugh at these moments all the time...

FW - been on the tugging end before....I try not to say anything, and watch for someone looking upstream....then suddenly, I have some guy's line, in front of me, and thinking "Geez...he didn't even know that his line ended up 5 guys above him ::)" Other times, I've found I have a fish, when I though I was on someones line, and only noticed it at the last second....quite comical then :D
