Thanks Chris. That was a superb talk + Q&A session full of facts and rational conversation. Lot's on info of salmon and chinook in particular. SRKWs are facing serious problems throughout their range - they spend most of their time off the California coast not BC. However the situation is not as dire as some claim. The collapse of chinook stocks there is more serious than BC. Also some serious comments by Dr Riddell of the PSF about the negative impacts hatchery programs are having on coho populations of the Salish Sea. Enhancement programs in Washington have the greatest effect since they release far more fish than BC. Neither guest speaker was enthusiastic about proposals for a seal cull.

Watch this if you haven't.

A few short yrs ago there was a lot of talk about giant squid in vast numbers in the west-coast waters.
As oceans warm these squid come closer to Washington/BC waters.
These creatures are big enough to eat salmon. Wonder wonder if there's any connection to decreased salmon populations. ? So many ?'s when it comes to salmon populations.....& lack of.

Who knows! LOL! There are as many explanations for the poor salmon returns these past years as there are people who fish for them.
