No matter what you put in your vest ALWAYS try to keep it as light as possible. There are many reasons for doing so.

#1, So you don't have to lug it around all day for unnecessary use for such things.
#2, If you slip and fall in the drink, alot of weight will make it much harded to regain balance and depending on the depth can sweep you down stream. (I have experienced this)

and of couse, a small camera in a ziploc (or better protection), for all the nice fish caught... and released ;)

I also always take my cell phone....in case of emergencies....used it once when a fellow fisher was exhibiting heart attack like symptoms on the trail.

In this age of minimum and maximum sizes, a tape measure is an essential in any vest

Hmmm...all the necessary fishing gear for the day, won't bore you with details.

Stuff that's different:
Bunch of small chocolate bars and granola bars (in case I get stranded and hungry or just hungry)
Elastic bands and electrical tape, super glue and sandpaper (for those weird little repairs)
flashlight
bags for fish and smaller ziploc bags for roe
cigars, clipper and lighter I carry in a ziploc inside my fanny pack
as well as cellphone (wrapped in ziploc) wallet and keys.
