And now region 2 is open on the 14th (except the Seymour).

Subject: FN1027-RECREATIONAL - Recreational - Re-opening to Salmon Fishing - Freshwater Region 2 - September 14, 2015
The salmon conservation measures that were put in place due to low flows and
high water temperature have been rescinded. Effective September 14, 2015 at
00:01 hours until further notice, all non-tidal rivers, streams and sloughs in
management units 2-2 to 2-12 and 2-16 to 2-19 will re-open to angling, with the
exception of the Seymour River. The Seymour River remains closed at this time.
Recent
rain events have led to improved flow and temperature conditions in most rivers
systems in Region 2. Please be aware that not all river systems in
Region 2 are open to salmon angling. Check the recreational
fisheries website at http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/index-eng.html for
more information on freshwater fishing opportunities in Region 2.
Variation Order 2015-448 is in effect.

I noticed that the reference to Sockeye no longer appears for most waters.

According to the website, Capilano river above the Highway 1 bridge, Chehalis and Coquitlam still remain closed to salmon fishing.

These places are still closed right now so the Website is correct. I suspect that website will be updated by Monday and if not they'll get a tons of emails and phone calls from people.

Exactly what FIC said, the website states it's closed until the day of opening. The NOTICE states it opens on the 14th.

Looks like Seymour and Mamquam are the only ones still closed. Other River seem like the same as last year.

The Government of B.C. is reopening angling for most streams in the South Coast due to increased rain and cooling water temperatures.
Effective Monday, Sept. 14, streams in Wildlife Management Units 2-2 through 2-12 and 2-16 through 2-19 where fishing was previously suspended are now re-opened to angling. The move reopens streams two weeks earlier than was first anticipated.
There are two exceptions, with the Seymour and Coquihalla rivers, including their tributaries remaining closed. Both these streams have barrier restrictions from rockslides that severely restrict upstream migration by steelhead, and the fish remain at risk.
Most streams on the South Coast were previously closed to angling on July 22 to protect fish stocks due to low flows and high water temperatures. The modified openings work in concert with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, which has announced matching regulations.

I'm almost wondering if the upper part of the cap could have stayed closed for a bit longer, because when I went for a bike ride yesterday near the cable pool, dog leg etc. the upper canyon pools were absolutely chockablock with rotting pinks (non-retainable) and coho, you could have freaking walked across the river on their backs, not to mention the water was at 0 on the gauge.
I know it is a hatchery river with pretty much no wild salmon left, but one can't help to know that these fish with get snagged to smithereens and thrown into black garbage bags by that certain type of fisherman.

I don't see anywhere where it states that the Mamquam is still closed. Where are you getting this info? All of the Squamish system is closed for chinook and pinks but they are open for hatchery coho.

So many mistakes in that section it's hard to decide where to start... ::)
Fishery notice 904 (http://notices.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fns-sap/index-eng.cfm?pg=view_notice&DOC_ID=174785&ID=all) states that Mamquam River is closed to angling (not angling for salmon, but angling) and there hasn't been another fishery notice to revert that. Region 2 freshwater salmon supplement (http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/fresh-douce/region2-eng.html) is showing Mamquam is closed to fishing for salmon downstream from the CPR Bridge (not all angling, but just angling for salmon, and not all of mamquam, but just downstream from CPR, which contradicts the fishery notice). And right below where it says no fishing for salmon downstream from CPR, there is a daily quota given for hatchery coho salmon. And in the provincial announcement (https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2015FLNR0279-001507) it has reopened Mamquam for fishing, so I guess that reverts the notice which DFO, a different government, issued earlier?

I think it's a trap... Someone should go and fish it, maybe a dozen COs will jump out from the bush as soon as you make a cast. ;)

Haha, it's seriously getting to the point that I need to hire a lawyer to ask him/her where I can fish and for what species. It can be so confusing and I'm born and raised in BC. I can only imagine English as a second language for some..........

I remember my Brother-in law telling me he went over the the island camping with his wife and he decided to take his fishing gear
he also took a copy of the fishing synopsis but when he got there and tried to locate a place that was open to fish he was so confused he just gave up :-\

Mamquam is the most checked piece of water that I've ever fished. Odds are good, open or closed you'll see a CO there. Somebody, volunteer to fish there, talk to a CO and find out for the rest of us ;D

The way I read the latest Fishery notice is that it recinds the previous notices. I know most of the Conservation Officers up this way so I will talk to them tomorrow and have them clarify.

Talked to my contacts in the Provincial Ministry and indeed the rivers are all open with the exception of the Seymour and Coquahalla. Tried DFO but no one answered the phone so I will trust the Provincial boys for the correct answer.

Thanks for the info. Let's just hope the CO doesn't look at the web page, but I'm sure they all receive internal emails about what the current openings and closings are.

Yes, when FN0904 was announced, the table should have been edited to include "no fishing for salmon" under the "All" section and under the Coho section below the bridge. Since DFO only has control of the salmon in the Freshwater, their announcement of the total angling closure was in conjunction with the Provincial Order. When the province reopened the rivers, which it has the jurisdiction to do, I do not believe it recinded the DFO orders over salmon fishing since the Federal Government controls salmon, so DFO needed to issue its own order FN 1027 to allow fishing for salmon. The only contradiction now is rhe old FN0904 notice still showing" no fishing for salmon" below the bridge. That was recinded by FN1027 and should be removed.
