Anyone use the Foodsaver to freeze their fish ? Anyone know where I can buy a used commercial model ?
-
What is this, Some kind of special freezer or something ???
-
The Foodsaver sucks the air out of the plastic bags which allows you to store food without suffering the effects of freezer burns.
-
Yeah, I've seen those on info-mercials.
-
Yep we use a food saver for sealing all our sockeye and they last for about a year without freezer burn. The large vacuume sealers are called "Craovac" I think. Good luck

FA i heard from a fellow fishing buddy its a great way to freeze your fish! but i have never tried it.....so give it a go :) he said you could also freeze roe like that....said something about freezing the roe first then vacume pack it and when you wanna use it, thaw in the fridge....you can use the bag over and over again too ;D well good luck to you with that ;D take care!

If it's just a vacume packing machine, it shoudl keep fish for up to a year, my parents just at some of the salmon that I caught last summer. They had some friends over who kept on asking when the salmon was caught this week, suprised them by saying last August.

I got to get myself one of those foodsavers ;D

try london drugs.... :)

A used commercial quality vacuum packer will run you 2-3 large-a lotta dough for a few Salmon.
The best deals to be had are from http://www.wellscan.ca/ which is in Burnaby-they have the best prices for quality goods-smokers as well.

I've been using Tilia's Professional II model for three years now. Fresh, smoked, fillet or whole, it does an outstanding job with fish (as well as a whole host of other things). They're not too pricey ~ about $300.00 for that model, and well worth it!! Fish will last a year no problem. Don't go with the cheaper models as several of my firends have found out - most don't make through the warrenty.
Cheers,
Nog
