Title: Anything in squamish area?
Post by: htdub on September 05, 2014, 10:40:20 AM: Friends are visiting whistler/squamish this weekend, they wanna go fish, anything running thru squamish area this time of year?

Post by: Rodney on September 05, 2014, 10:48:15 AM: Squamish River is generally pretty slow during this time of the year. You may find the odd coho salmon and there are trout and char around as well. Catch and release only and bait ban in effect. Good luck!

I see the bait ban, but it appears that one hatchery coho (>25 cm) can be retained/day in the Squamish and Tribs?

Yep, but you won't find one... Hard to get any salmon there this time of year let alone a hatch fish.

This is about the slowest time of the year on this system. Chinook are at peak of spawn and should be left alone. Some trout around in a few locations but have been fished vary hard by the fly and guided crowd. Trout will be well educated. For all intensive purposes coho have not started yet but you never know. Better luck on the 6/49 than catching coho right now.

If you want a nice walk in a pretty location then you can't beat the Squamish. If you want fish, it's not a good option now.

Actually all of the fish species present in the Squamish are catch and release EXCEPT one hatchery coho per day. Some years chum and pink are open as well but are closed in the regulations unless they are opened by fishery notice. Steelhead are also catch and release and that includes hatchery fish as well.
