Post by: JigHead on June 24, 2004, 12:07:14 AM
Just wondering, if you report a violation... how fast does it take for them to sent people over...  today, after i saw this family taking ... aleast 20 undersize crabs i had to call.... but 2 hours have gone by... and no one showed up... i even stayed till 10... and no body... i made the report at like 5-6 too.

depends on where they are concentrating their efforts. i have had excellent response time at New Brighton park sometimes, other times they are sooooo slow in getting there..... >:(

you would think that if the D.F.O. were to be to busy to respond immediatly they would ask the R.C.M.P. to respond and at least hold/detain the villians untill they could get there. Understandably no one would expect the Cops to drop other pressing work.A typical example of non co-operation between federal law enforcement  departments

Sandy,
It has nothing to do with non cooperation between the feds. Your first sentence in the above quote is exactly what the problem is.
The RCMP along with the DFO have LIMITED resources and sometimes it is not in the general public's interest for the RCMP to drop other calls and go after poachers. Sometimes they do. The RCMP enforces ALL Federal violations. It depends on how busy they are.  :)

Normfish,
Yes. The RCMP can issue Fisheries Act fines.

IMHO....there are too many different police/dfo/fisheries/ etc etc etc etc. this country needs one (1) police. all city police, dfo should just become the good ol RCMP, and the old red uniforms should be brought back as standard issue....... 8)

Municipalities save money using a federal/provincial subsidized police force. In Ontario, we had the OPP.
