It gets stocked, but I don't know the stocking dates. It is usually spring and Fall. I'm not interested in fresh stocked catchables, but the holdovers are a different story.  One thing to note is SaintMarys has actual shrimp similar to small, ocean shrimp. They ar NOT the scuds found in interior lakes. The shrimp are a pale, whitish olive colour. White sometimes works as well. It can be a fun lake to fish with multiple species. The bass tend to stay closer to shore and the trout are out in the middle to stay away from the bass.

St Mary Lake on Salt Spring Island is indeed stocked by Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. It is stocked with two particular stocks, Blackwater rainbow trout and Taylor cutthroat trout. Both stocks are triploids and fish are released at the yearling stage.

Although the lake is more known for its smallmouth bass fishing, its early spring trout fishing can actually be very productive.
