Title: Boat recommendations

Do not want inflatable and must be small enough to carry on roof of my VW Tiguan.

Just beginning my research now so am open to all brands etc. No price point yet as I will see what is available.

Something like Rod uses in his videos is what I was thinking. anyone know what brand/model? Rod?

As for putting on top of your SUV, you'll should ensure you have the right sized roof rack so it mounts alright. Lights boats are key (ie fibreglass). I've been looking into this topic myself as I just use a large inflatable with trolling motor right now. Anyway, good luck.

Dan, my boat was built by Ray on the forum, his handle is "canoe man".

I'm not sure if he still builds them, but you can try PMing him and ask.

The one I have is 10' (or just under). It has worked great for me and my wife. Sometimes we have one more person in it, a bit crowded but doable. The boat is too heavy for loading it on and off the car by myself, but fine with two people. This year I am having an electric boat loader installed on the vehicle, which will make it a lot easier. I like the big compartment in the middle of my boat, which lets me store a lot of fishing and camera gear. I don't really have any complaints about it, maybe just wishing the front end to be a bit wider.

Post by: lucarno on February 12, 2014, 08:47:10 PM: i'm super stoked on my 12' jon i got from cabelas last spring. it weighs 125lbs i think. i can get it onto the roofracks of my tacoma by myself with the help of the boat dolly i made but it's kind of tricky. i was going to get the 10 footer which i think is only 90 lbs but i figured i might as well get something a little bigger that can comfortably take a few peeps out as i've already got the float tube if i want to solo mission. the boat was $750 new i think the 10' is 700. i got the 1 with the 36' wide floor as opposed to the 32' cause i was told it would be a bit more stable. last year there was tons of cheap jons on craigslist particularly down in washington. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Alumacraft-L-Jon/755976.uts

Was thinking of getting something lightweight to chase pinks. Or is a fishing kayak a better/safer option. Any kayak fishermen out there?
