Title: Fishing Painting
Post by: Every Day on November 12, 2013, 03:08:07 PM
Thought I'd post this as some of you on here might appreciate it.
It's not the greatest picture... and as always, things look better in person rather than a photograph.
Kitty decided to take another painting course this year, and decided to focus on paintings based on pictures of us.

This was the first one she did earlier this year...

This is the picture that she based her painting on:

Hopefully you all enjoy it as much as I do. She has also done a couple others, so I may update this thread if I take pictures of some of those as well!

Cheers,
Dan

Wow! Kudos to her. It looks fantastic! If I was to paint that... You would be a stick man and not able to tell you were fishing lol. Great job though, it's very well done!

Glad you finally posted this Dan ... gorgeous painting by an obviously very talented young lady!  Best to marry her so when she's famous she can keep you supplied with tackle, lol!

The painting is vastly more appealing than the photo - and that's saying something, as it's a beautiful photo!

I really love the movement in the painting, and the tones and colour contrasts she used.

Kitty has got some serious talent, Dan, make sure she stays on it if she enjoys it!

Dang!  I guess it is too late to ask if I could paint that one.  I was thinking of a watercolour myself.  She has some skill.  I love painting water, as it is a very challenging subject.  What were the dimensions of that one?

Thanks for posting both photo and painting. Both are lovely in their own way. I do a bit of art work myself and can appreciate other people's talents. She needs to continue.

How long did it take her to paint that?

My sister, who is a noted artist, has been asked the same question many times. Her reply is always the same... "Fourty years"
That is as long as she has been studying art and improving her technique. Picasso could complete a simple piece of priceless art work in a few minutes, but it took him years to learn how to do so.

Meow, meow, meow...

Meaning what?

The gal has talent and she needs to continue and do more. She obviously has a good eye knows about composition. The photo is also excellent and could be cropped to just the angler with its lovely back lighting.

There are many ways to look at the same picture. Kitty chose an almost surrealistic view of the water and the rocks below. As more of a pure "fishing" picture this is another approach, using the quasi-rule of "thirds"... which means placing the point of interest about one third of the way into the picture.

Feel free to paint it or any of my other pictures man, I'd love to see them! I wouldn't take offence at all, in fact, it's more of a compliment. This has by far been one of my best years for photos, and I finally feel like I am starting to get the knack with photography where I can consistently get good pictures.

As for the painting, it is an acrylic 4x3 feet.

How long did it take her to paint that?

About 3 weeks in between school work, classes and fishing.
Quite a few hours, but what's more important is she feels she's learnt a lot with this one.

Thanks for posting both photo and painting. Both are lovely in their own way. I do a bit of art work myself and can appreciate other people's talents. She needs to continue.

Ian that is spectacular!
Kitty wants to know how long you've been painting, and whether or not it is self taught or if you took some courses?

Thanks for all the kind words gentlemen!

I keep telling her to continue, but she doesn't feel like she could make any sort of career out of it, and she doesn't really do it as a hobby... I hope she does, as I really enjoy a lot of her art work, and I do feel like she is targeting a niche that not many artists do, and could probably sell a few!

I'm almost 74 and I've been painting and sculpturing since I was a child. I'm self taught if you can call having dozens of art books being "self" taught. I didn't want to horn in on your topic, but just posted a picture of my own to show I know what I'm talking about. Please keep encouraging Kitty. She obviously has talent. And, don't let her get discouraged with failures. All artists have them. I've got a drawer full of paintings, drawings and ink sketches that are "almost" acceptable but not quite what I wanted.

There WILL come a time when she will sell  her work and that will be a reward in itself.
