Hi, What are your opinions on circle hooks? Are they legal if they are barbless? Are they better then the normal hooks? Would they be better for fishing salmon in rivers like the vedder? What are the disadvantages and advantages? Thanks

They are perfectly legal if they are barbless.
I dont think they are particularly popular for salmon fishing, they are more for fish that swallow the bait rather than bite it. Circle Hooks are very popular for bottom fish like Halibut and flounder. They may also be useful for Sturgeon? I can't really say...
Rather than setting the hook with a good pull on the rod like a normal hook, with a circle hook you wait for the fish to take your bait and run with it, then slowly retrieve it, and on its way out its supposed to hook the side of the fishes mouth.
Meanwhile, with a salmon you typically are setting the hook when the fish strikes, as they are often not eating, but instead are being aggressive.
