I had a chair with a holder built into it yeas ago. Problem was with every movement you made, the rod would twitch. I found that distracting.  :(
Depending on what kind of set up you are using, e.g a lighter rod and not spring fishing, I use a holder that allows a straight pull back to set the hook, not out forward and then set the hook . Then I sit right behind it. Though I hardly ever bar fish any more.

The concept of a chair with a built in rod holder seems good at first... but then it kinda defeats the whole purpose of the holder.

The point of a rod holder is to detect bites easy, and if every time you move in your chair, whether its to get up for a walk, get a drink, to scratch your arse, or even sneeze your rod is flailing around, your going to have trouble detecting the bites. Especially if you've got a bell on your rod - it'll be ringing all day long.

For price and simplicity, its hard to beat a 4' piece of rebar with a hunk of PVC pipe hose-clamped to it...
