Title: Float fishing with a mooching reel.
Post by: aaron600 on September 30, 2013, 09:17:12 AM
I just picked up a Shimano MCR 2000 Mooching reel and wondering if it can be used for float fishing roe on the Vedder. Any positives or negatives to using one of these instead of a spinning reel?

I think it would be a bit bulky.

It would work great if you don't mind fishing with about 10 oz of weight and a beachball for a float. :o

Moochers are used for bar fishing in the faster water of the upper Fraser (Chilliwack and past) but they are also using 12-18 oz of lead on there bar rods.

This isn't the right reel for the Vedder or any drift fishing for that matter.
