What kinda lube should i be using to maintain my center pin reel? And Which parts should I be applying it to? Thanks

Use automatic transmission oil for lubing the spindle and bushing or bearing, just a drop or two is all that is needed. Same for the clicker. Stay away from any type of grease as it will attract or hold in any debris. Try not to dunk your reel in the water as any fine sediment will get into the bearings or spindle. If you have dunked it, clean it as soon as you get home and lube. I usually give mine a wipe down a few times and lube sparingly if it hasn't been dunked. A good cleaner for the bearings is lighter fluid. ATF is the finest refined oil there is.

Automatic transmission fluid is also a detergent and corrosive and will wear parts faster than any other oil... After blowing up a transmission in a truck of mine I replaced it and while doing some research on transmission flushes found something interesting. A tranny flush is actually bad for your transmission as the "old" fluid has nuetralized and is no longer as corrosive on worn parts. When new fluid is put in it actually eats away more at the worn parts which then leads to transmission failure down the road. A way to prevent this is to keep a bit of the "old" fluid (roughly 1 quart) and add it to the new fluid to nuetralize the new fluid and prevent premature transmission failure.
Also isn't gasoline more refined than ATF?

You can buy sewing machine oil from Walmart or any arts & crafts store. A 4oz bottle will probably last a lifetime and cost a couple of bucks. :)

You can buy reel oil and any tackle shop.
Apply to any joints and touching surfaces.

ATF IS the finest refined oil made, gasoline is not a lubricating oil made, gasoline is a fuel. I have been using ATF on all my pins and other reels probably for more years than you are old, never had a bearing problem. BTW I guess being a licensed HD mechanic for 40 years gives me a little knowledge about lubricating oils. Also when doing a tranny flush not all of the old oil is removed, most of the torque converter oil doesn't get flushed.

Did I say I knew it all? Nope just stated what I learned, you sure sure didn't deny the part about the ATF being a detergent or corrosive though did you.

ATF is the finest refined oil there is.

Gasoline is an oil, although further processed (aka REFINED) than lubricating oils... Last I checked mechanics didn't do any scientific formulas to refine raw materials to make their own lubricants or fuels.
I may not be a "licensed HD mechanic" but at least I can get a reply to post properly and not include my reply in the quote.

I have always used gun oil, Hoppe's or Browning gun oil. It's a very fine oil meant for lubing high tolerance machinery

You should check with the manufacturer of your reel(s) and see what product they recommend and where to apply it. Some bearings are sealed and dont need any oil. Some are intended to be run "dry".
I've used Super-Lube oil and grease for about 5 years now. It is recommended by Islander and I have used it on my Milners and levelwind reels also without any issues.
