Was at Berrys today purchasing a new reel when I spotted the clearout bin full of Trophy xl Royales...walked over took a look and grabbed 2...REg $199.99...getting rid of them for $49.99.

Judging by that review it's the rod not the reel that is trash.

Edit - the op was talking about clearance rods wasn't he? Now I look like an my friend lol

Sometimes you have to consider the "source" when reading reviews on products.

Those Trophy XL rods are a great rod for the angler that can't afford one of the more high end rods.

I've got an old Trophy XL rod somewhere around here and it's taken a beating, I usually use it when I know I'm gonna be doing some serious boony bashin and would just rather leave my better rods at home. It's still capable of fishing for anything around these parts and wouldn't hesitate to tell a person on a budget to pick one up, there more than good enough

There is definitely something up with those Trophy XL royales.  I had one break the same way after just a few outings.  Heard about similar experiences from others too.  The good thing is that they're easily replaced, and the replacement rod hasn't been an issue.  Luck of the draw I guess...
