Title: West Vancouver, July 13th 2013: Coho off the beach

Fished off the beach at West Van Saturday and landed a nice hatch Coho
I noticed that the boats were hooking into some fish close to shore so i tried a buzz bomb and fish on
The boats were so close in that I had to wait for them to pass so I could cast
lots of boats out there, did not see any fish jumping though :-\

I was out there yesterdfay as well with my new (to me) boat with my wife and two kids. It was the first chance I have had to get out with the boat I inherited from my old buddy. I really just wanted to get the kids out on the salt for the first time and show them how the downriggers work, etc. Sadly no fish for us but not alot of effort either. The sounder wasn't working so I stayed well away from the seawall, but I too noticed some fellas hooking up very close in. I saw another gent and his partner hooking coho right beside the channel marker at the Cap mouth; nice to see. Finally, I noted that the local constabulary was out in that nice turbo-diesel boat they have, using the bullhorn to warn fishers trolling in and through the shipping lane just off the mouth (of the Cap). Must have been 40 boats along the Northshore trolling yesterday in the beautiful sunshine  8)

I was there late morning with nothing to show, I then went off for lunch
I got the fish on about the fourth cast after lunch, I then fished a couple more hours with no other hits
so nice out there 8)
certainly no signs of fish schooling or stacking up yet

Beauty day for sure. I've never tried beach fishing but I think I'll give the mouth a shot sometime next week. I've always preferred casting and retrieving to short floating roe anyways.
