Title: Question about strong current and large lead

So my friend is taking me Bar fishing and perhaps try for sturgeon
Big weighs are recommended .
So from my days in England we used breakaway leads to hold the bottom

Why not use them here less lead to throw ?.

Interesting...   How do those work? Do the wire fingers break off or just bend?

Exactly once you start to wind in they snap back and release the lead
You can hold bottom and cast half the weight or less.
My friend just told me trust a noob to try and reinvent the wheel Lol .

Most 16oz weights are around five bucks each, that may have something to do with it..

You don't really want to leave lead in the river if you don't have to.

The wires snap back still attached to the lead your not leaving anything behind :)

It doesn't sound like these weights are being left in the river, just that the wires break away allowing an easy retrieve of the weight.

anyone know where to get these locally? I would be interested in trying these for sturgeon as well. Just checked that ebay link and would cost 36# each to ship to canada haha.

Also the lift they offer looks interesting getting the lead off the bottom asap
