I am newish to the steelhead world... I am looking for tips on a good "go to" setup from float to hook... I am currently using a St Croix 10'6 rod with a Abu Garcia c4 6600

My setup:
1 bobber stop
1 small bead
20-25g dne or cleardrift float
1 small bead
2 bobber stops
3-4 removable splitshot size 2 or 4
Improved clinch knot
Small barrel swivel
Improved clinch
14-20" of 10# leader (fluorocarbon in clear conditions)
#4-1/0 hook depending on size of bait
I like removable split shot as I use jigs often. This is my CP setup but would work great on your baitcaster.
The split shot all spread out evenly give the presentation a sexier look IMO.

Bobber stop
25g float (either foam dink float or cleardrift)
Lead clinch(store bought or home made)or worm weight with a bead or lead weight crimped on my main line.
Clinch knot
Barrel swivel
1.5-2 ft leader (depending on vis)(8lb ultra green)
Bait loop
Size #1-#4 hook depending bait presentation

Ill throw a corkie on depending if im fishing deep water or what weight set up I have on.
I am still pretty new to this steelheading gig.
A big thing is not to get discouraged if you dont hit every trip,
Currently 1/8 trips but met some awesome people on the flow!

don't over complicate things...set up for short floating like you normally would for salmon...the secret is being able to read the water.

When I start out steelheading about 38 moon years ago the best learning advice was watching other fisherman to see what they are using. Paid attention to every details.....
