Just seeing what others on here have caught that have been out of the ordinary?
Iv caught things from sea cucumbers to computer mouses..

Does a rock count??? Unsure how it happened - was float fishing - set the float a little to deep - it got caught on the bottom and somehow the hook (barbless) caught the rock in a little cranny - thought I had picked up a stick as I could feel some drag - but no real 'fishy' resistance - pulled out a 2 pound 'wild' rock.
I gently released it... :D
Bought a lotto ticket that night... I still have to work.. :(

Many years ago when I was young, I went pike fishing and landed a duck!
The duck was foraging under water and striked at the spoon and was hooked solid inside of its bill.
No flossing or foul hooked here. :o

Where did you get that? Looks like a tropical fish of some sort that isn't doing well (colour looks quite washed out).
I've caught everything from bats to seagulls on the living part of the spectrum.
And everything from rocks to underwear on the non-living part of the spectrum.
As for weirdest things caught... once caught a coho without anything on the line (broke off ALL my gear) and brought a coho in that had somehow wrapped itself in my line completely.
I have also once caught the eye of a swivel that was attached to a leader line that was attached to a fish, and have a few times also caught floats that were attached to fish.

For me I would say seagull.
As for my grandpa he caught a dead body off vancover island, like 20 years ago.

Caught a white hubcab (like one you would see on an 80's Sunbird or Pulsar)in the fraser river pink fishing from a boat on a croc.
It was quite a fight as the hub cap fluttered in the deep water and heavy current. We had no idea what we had on, it put up a great fight as the current would catch it just right and pull line, rod throbbing downwards. It was crazy. We would 'gain on it' then it would pull line. SO DISAPOINTING when it got to the surface.

It is a fine specimen of a scrawled cowfish - common in tropical waters.
I have caught quite a few of them in Venezuela back in the day. Down there they call it torito (little bull).
I'd venture to say you didn't catch it here. Florida, Mexico, maybe?

i caught one one those while fishing for bones in the florida key flats. thats the only thing i caught that day! ;D saved the day. the love to chase after the bone flies.

--I'm sure seagull is not uncommon on the coast... but while discussing catching a seagull on the coast we hooked up one on skaha lake.
--Had just remarked that a passing boat had caught and released several small kokanee and that seagulls were picking them up.
--Was using a UV flasher which I think is what the bird thought was a kokanee... as he picked it up the trailing....lucky for him single barbless hook got him in the leg... he was released unharmed.

Cool thanks for the ID. And yes, you are right, it was during my recent trip to Cuba. I donated it to the locals and they loved it along with all the other fish (mostly perch) that I was catching.

About 10 years ago 1st week of July I was fishing for coho at Nude Rock on the Cap and go figure I reeled in a woman's white lace underwear grandma style, didn't put up much of a fight and I was hoping it would just come off!

Caught a cormorant last week.
A few weeks ago I somehow managed to hook into a fish, but there was a hook in the mouth, with a 3 foot or so piece of mono with some shot on it, and a swivel at the end. I somehow managed to hook into the swivel and land the fish.
Last January while cuttie hunting I caught a boot. It wasnt a whole boot, but it was clearly the side of the upper piece of boot. Lace Eyelets and everything. I thought that only happened in cartoons.

About 5 years ago while fishing dries on Lac Le Jeune. My uncle hooked into a dragonfly on his backcast it flew around with the line in it's tail for a little while he brought it in, took the hook out and safely released it. :D

Wow guys some funny stuff. I've only ever caught rocks, sticks and myself. What a boring resume.
You'd think after all the hours I'd have something better then that.

last year I was fishing Cates park and caught a fully loaded tackle box. still have it if anyone wants to claim it lol

this past summer while chucking spoons for coho out at ambleside buddy hooked a crab right in the mouth right thru the top. we were quite amazed it was his first ever catch.

im not sure if this is weird or not but while fly fishing the beaches i caught a flounder. didn't know you can fly fish for those little guys of the beaches.

I caught a 20 Red Spring with a leader in its mouth still attached to a swivel. Against all odds, I hooked the swivel and fought the fish for 20 minutes landing it.
I let it go after cutting the leader because I felt it was not fairly caught.
Come to think of it, it took a lot of luck to hook the swivel.

I did the exact thing on a coho a couple of years ago. I hooked the eye of a swivel attached to a spoon that was in the coho's mouth! Crazy! Btw - I also released the fish, but kept the spoon... ;)

On the vedder the other day I was fly fishing and some young kid shows up beside me bottom bouncing in three feet of water hooking bottom every cast. A beaver was making it way up stream past us and he decided to hook it on purpose . There beaver started to come towards him and he got scared and started to throw rocks at it. Before I started to throw rocks at the stupid kid I had to leave my good spot and fish elsewhere.

All of a sudden, the lure flew out of the water and I knew it had nothing to do with me. Then, very slowly, an otter head slipped slowly out of the water facing the other direction. I could be wrong, but I thought I glimpsed a tiny middle claw come out of the water too ...

I wrote about this a few years ago.
When float fishing using ghost shrimp a few years ago I hooked a river otter. Had it on for a while before it broke off. Always felt bad about that.

Sticks that i would have sworn were fish for the first few seconds on. :o
Reeled in a small Seal that took the Herring while up at Rivers Inlet and released it by cutting the leader close to its mouth as the hook was in its mouth too far and we werent going in there.

I caught a traffic cone in Como Lake as a kid ;D that was fun.
and a spoon at belcarra that same summer,
and since then...just a few cans, a sandal, and a rotted-out fishing net ::)

I caught one of those cowfish off a pier in St Petes what a bizarre fish!, and a stingray, and I've caught one gull that dived at a rapala 2' down and it was hooked in the cheek, and another gull grabbed a big tomic on the surface but luckily it shook loose in the air. Also a little offenpincher dog that was helping us icefish for trout. Papa and pliers made for a quick fix.

On the second saltwater trip of my life after moving here from Ontario, we decided to try some bottomfishing. We were in the Bamfield area in Barkley Sound. We caught a cabezone, then a ratfish, followed by a big skate that was hooked in the tail and took 20 min to reel in.
All fish were photoed and released as we had absolutely no idea what any of them were. It was a long time before we went bottom fishing again!

I would bet that alot of us have caught swivels in the eye with fish attached, i know i have had it happen more than once. also hooked ducks, my friend, myself, a vehicle once and a pawn chair. im sure there is more but thats what i can remember right now.
the vehicle was while BBing and i hadnt realized the truck that pulled up behind us was so f***ing close when i flipped my leader back i tossed it directly into the drivers side window HAHAHAHAHAHAHA ::)

I was talking to a guy last year during steelhead season. He somehow entangled with a seagull during a cast. The seagull dropped the line after a bit of struggling and he continued with the drift. Guess what? He caught the second largest steelhead for the derby he was in that day....a 15lber

My 5 year old son hooked my dog in the upper lip. Thankful for barbless hook and having forceps on hand.

Ok this is not my story but quite amazing. So my friend was fishing this year near the pink apartments and goes for a swim and ends up losing his spinning rod.
A few weeks later he is back on the boat, another friend of his is trolling in his own boat and hooks into a spring.
My friend pulls up to video the battle, and as the downrigger comes up lo and behold, there is his spinning rod!! Call it luck call it skill I don't know!!

Also while fishing the stamp last year I hook into a steelhead. Get him to the boat and what have I hooked? A hook and gooey bob that was broken off in his mouth

Are you sure an Oyster and not a freshwater Mussel?
I have caught a few Freshwater Mussels but an Oyster would certainly be odd.
They must be laying there with shell open and then clamp down when the line or hook runs through them.
Id hate to think they were actually chomping on my bait. :o

There is a couple of lower mainland flows that have an oyster population in the tidal portions where they spill into the chuck. (technically the freshwater portion but very much salt)

Always managed to hook into diving birds when I lived in Costa Rica. I also managed to hook a sea snake...scared the hell out of me because they are poisonous.
In BC, a sea cucumber off Saltspring because I was trolling too deep and a small octopus off Gabriola...must of hooked it...trolling too deep again!

Caught an oyster myself on the Nicomekl river.I hooked it with a croc spoon right where the 2 shells come togetherr.The boat launch by the farm used to be an oyster farm ,its tidal until it crosses KGH. :-*
My son hooked me in the calf with a treble hook when he was 5 as well,a real stinger,not sure why we were using treble hooks with small children. ???

Actually the tidal boundary is the BNSF railway bridge.

Got into a school of Humboldt Squid while fishing 22km off Kyouqet Sound with Murphy a few years back.... Had one 10 yds off the stern when a salmon shark bit it in half (large ink cloud in the water).Got into a half dozen over the coarse of about an hr. Just like the Discovery channel. :o

Hooked a chinook through the eye of a swivel, an event that has been reported earlier by others so it is not unknown but it was a fish I had lost the previous day. Lost it again but got my gear from the previous day back.
Several seagulls, murre, octopus and a thresher shark by the tail off Bamfield. Sand dollar.
A large sculpin with a purple transformer toy stuck in his gullet.
Cutty with a very large rock in his stomach.
Crab trap.
Caught a seagull that didn't go near the hook but touched a line being trolled shallow with a wing tip and put a hitch around its wing. Nasty blighters to untangle, they bite.

I hooked some fly line recently. Started pulling on it to get it out of the river. Up came a really nice fly rod and reel still attached.
Had a friend beside me hook a beaver years ago. That was one pissed off beaver.

A few weeks ago when I was fishing chum in the Squamish and lost my 8 ft t11 due to a shoddy knot. I put on a much shorter tip but it wasn't doing the trick; after about 15 minutes of fishing that I hooked into 10 ft of t11 with pre-tied knots ::)

Many years ago when I was guiding in Campbell river, we were shallow trolling (1 oz weights) with live herring on fly rods at Willow Point, when one of my guests caught 2, 5-6 lb coho on one rod at the same time. Both coho were landed. The first one to be netted had its jaw or gill plate tangled in the mainline about half way down the line and the second to be netted was hooked normally. I think they were the only fish we hooked in the hour or so we fished at Willow Point that day.

One quick follow-up: I recently went to a familiar hole, cast and retrieved, and then felt a snag. cupcakes! But I managed to release it, reeled in, and then pulled up a full set-up (weight, leeder, lure) I'd lost 2 weeks prior. lol.

i broke a coho off on the lower vedder. an hour later i landed a beauty 12 pound doe with a blue fox in her lip and my old leader.

last steelhead season I lost a rather large buck.... and the very next day my friend Pat caught the same buck.. took a pic of my worm hanging out of its lip... and handed it back to me for another try.
i was speachless. The buck was a 16.4 lb hatch. chrome bullet.
the same day, on the same worm I caught a 7 lb doe hatch.. that was a memorable few days.

How about this one, lost a willow leaf while trolling in a lake in about 30ft of water. 4 days later a family friend who drove up to stay with us caught the willow leaf :D Caught ducks and gulls before, never a fun thing. The river i fish quite a bit has a large population of muscrats and have caught one of them before. Caught a few rocks and articles of clothing, a bag of dog crap as well. This year I caught a few oysters as well, when they clamp down you are not getting your hook back, thats for sure :P

Weirdest thing I have caught would probably be a bat while I was fishing some dry flies on a lake in the Rockies, but I also accedentaly snagged a old pink a few years back flyfishing for pinks and pikeminnow since i was bored oneday, but once I got it to the beach, it decided to give one more haul at freedom, but it was so rotten it ripped the tail section up to the adipose fin right off and it floated away missing 1/3 of its body leaving me with the other 1/3 on my fly... I hate pinks. Then other random things like 15foot tall full trees floating subsurface with root stems still all intact. Rocks, a stop sign, and far too many plastic election signs.

Caught a dungeness crab on my spin rod fishing for flounder. Also landed a nice wooden pallet fishing for sturgeon :D

a frog,a turtle,a clam,an old fishing rod,a line that was broke off and it still had pike on it,and i pulled some of that green wire garden fence out of the water and it had a huge carp stuck on it,carp managed to get its gill stuck on the wire!

This year, a California sea cucumber while shore fishing..I've seen them before at low tide but never imagined hooking one. Next time I should try hook a sea urchin...uni is actually not bad ;D

Shoe, diaper, socks, turtles, seagul, baby seal.. twice and a duck while carp fly fishing.

Two seagull's in two days fishing the Cap. What fun I had undoing the line from them, my wife and friends laughing and clapping as the birds snapped and cawwed. Both were released safely and I too was miraculously unscathed, lol.

Hooked what I thought was a big spring bar fishing on the Fraser River. Turns out it was a 5 foot sturgeon, hooked in the mouth. The Abu 6501 went for repairs after that.
Bar fishing on the Columbia River using a blade and dew worm, while watching a deer swim across the river my rod started to bend so I grab it and set the hook. Line keeps going out so I figured I had hooked onto a log rolling across the bottom of the river. Applying a bunch of pressure to try to break the leader off and suddenly a sturgeon comes shooting out of the water, dragging my line through the water with it.
Fishing on the Skagit River one evening, my friend upstream lets out some weird noise and I lookup and see his floating line straight up in the air. The line is swinging in big circles that are getting smaller and smaller as he strips line in. Turns out a nighthawk had grabbed his dry fly while he was casting. After the ensuing hand-to-claw combat, the hook was freed and the bird flew away. So we start driving home and wham a nighthawk flies into my grill, flips up and lands dead on the windshield. No idea if it was the same bird.
