Title: Beaches in North Vancouver
Post by: Steely on July 31, 2012, 04:08:42 PM
Hi all, one fishery I just started trying is beach fishing with some success for cutthroat but now I'm looking for some salmon options. I went to the local shop to get as much info as I could and some flies to try and now it's just about getting out there and giving it a go. At this point I have been told the Capilano area is the best place to try for some coho. I love this type of fishing now and am just looking to spend some time out on the water, even if it results in just a few hookups. I have been told early morning and dusk are the best bets. Also low slack being the best tide for this area. I think I have all of my gear straightened out, one longer spinning rod and lots of spoons/spinners, a box full of coho flies and a capable 7wt with a floating, type 1 and 3 sinking lines. Now, I have looked up as much info on this site and others as possible and here's what I found. Ambleside, more fly fisher friendly and the Cap mouth more gear fisherman friendly, correct? I have no idea how to get to these two spots and am looking up maps as I type this, can't quite figure out the Cap mouth? Am I missing any spots to try, I don't mind exploring, just looking for a starting point. Any reports from this area? Also any other advice would be awesome and welcomed. I find this fishery very relaxing and fun so just knowing that I'm casting to something is enough for me. Thanks guys and tight lines :)

If you're fishing Ambleside area never mind the sink tips, just go floating line and leader.

Kinda figured that would be the way to go, with just a small weighted fly.

As I said above, I can't reply to a pm cause I'm not a subscriber and your email is hidden.

If you don't mind divulging...where did you have luck with Cutthroats on the North Shore? I've tried a few beaches/outflows but have had no success

The beaches I've fished for cuttys are not on the north shore. I was just talking about beach fishing in general.
