Title: osoyoos lake
Post by: tumbleweed on July 28, 2012, 10:18:21 AM
Hi,
I am taking my boys camping to Haynes Point provincial campground. Has anyone fished there?   They are 6 and 8 years old, they would love to catch some fish.  It really doesn't matter what kind they are just looking to have fun. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hey! Osoyoos lake is where I caught my first fish. I have fished haynes point but had no luck due to wind. The reeds look like great cover for largemouth bass, and those bass can get big. If you are gonna try for the bass, go to that store on the main road across from home depot and get some rubberbait that wont get caught in the weeds. I always see trout jumping in the evenings and i think a small spinner would work for them, or a float and bait.

I highly recomend carp fishing, the invasive asian carp of osoyoos lake get very big and put up a good fight, somewhat easy to catch. theres lots under the bridge, i use a big sloppy bait i make myself.

garlic powder, cheese, tortilla chips, mustard, red food couloring, little bit of water and mix it up until it is a thick sludge that would hold on the hook. Just let it sit on the bottom with a weight and wait for the bites ! goodluck to yah!

Hey, thanks for the reply. sounds like they would enjoy carp fishing. I would love to see the smiles on their faces if they got a big one.

Hey skaha,
Glad hear that lots of sox getting caught. What kind of shape are those fish in? Not too beat up from the long trip from the ocean I trust? I'm heading up there with my 12 ft'er this week (hopefully, wife permitting).

--should be good shape... I had one in the restaurant from line catch quota it was taste.
--get them on ice asap.. haven't heard any complaints from those catching.
--single barbless so easly to release if in doubt.

There are some "big momma" carp in the pond by the gazebo on the south side of the big lake.

OK, heading there tommorrow with the family for R'n'R and a little fishiing in the 12ft. I'll bring lotsa sunscreen :-) and hopefully get the kids into some sox. If not, still got the flyrods. If there's bass about, I can try to get some ( as I used to fish them lots when I was younger). I'll file a report when I get back.
