Title: Quick questions - rod repairing/roe
Post by: silver ghost on October 08, 2011, 12:00:18 AM
Gonna head out tomorrow but have some last minute housekeeping...

the ceramic in the inside tip of my drift rod has shattered and fallen off. I bought a new tip but how the hell do i get the old one off without cutting it off?

Im curing some roe with pautzke cure and have sprinkled a bit on...should i leave it overnight or just dry it with a bunch of borax in a ziploc bag right now?

if you go out of the forum to the main webpage, look through the articles or blogs, Rod put up a article with video on how to cure roe.

It should come off with a gentle application of heat.

I have over heated a rod tip and burnt off the resin in the blank...be careful with heating the tip.  The best way to do it is get an elastic and a paperclip.  attach the paper clip to the tip, anchor the elastic and stretch it out.  Apply heat and as soon as the glue holding the tip melts, the tip will pull off so you should be able to avoid overheating/damaging the blank.
