I am just wondering if anyone has been to the Squamish lately and if there are chum and coho starting to show up? I am heading up that way on the weekend. Thanks.
-
Watch the hydro charts to see if the water levels drop. It's probably blown with all the rain we've had.
-
There should definitely be some coho in there right now, but I'm also wondering...
What's the cheak like? Is the water fishable? I appreciate the report as it might save me a considerably long drive to find it's blown out. Thanks guys

I was just up there last weekend (Oct 1st and 2nd). Dead as can be... dead as in there was nothing showing up in terms of coho or chum, and dead as in lots of dying and dead pinks everywhere. The water level was quite low as well.

Squamish is bank to bank and dirty as can be, Chek is 1 ft at best. Lots of bears in the area...
-
Anything new?
bump
-
In prime shape, but still void of fish.
-
Went for a hike up there today. Squamish visibility is about 1' and with last years flood, the river bank is largely covered in jammed up wood making access difficult on foot. Lots of black bear sign.
-
Any updates from the Squamish area? Was thinking about heading up at some point this weekend.
Thanks

That's how I found it last Friday. Some pretty nasty fish rotting on the shorelines.
When do we expect the coho and chum to start moving in?

In a normal year they would be there in decent numbers already.
This last few years returns have been dismal, and this year is shaping up to follow that trend.
We should leave the system alone and hope it rebounds in coming years.

I've been in the area looking around and chum thus far are very sparse. It's definitely looking like its shaping up to be another poor return. Agree with Milo.

was on the cheakamus still no love ????? whats going on only pinks I thought they would be gone by now . heard the natives were complaining about the chum return ..... not a good sighn

mouldy pinks are Great in the smoker!! ::)
-
Any coho rolling in?
-
I spoke to an angler today who was into a couple Ho's on a recent trip to the Check. For what it's worth, He took them on the fly.
-
Went yesterday - water is now low and clear, lots of mouldy springs around. Pinks are pretty much gone. No coho action from myself or anyone I saw.
-
Was out yesterday as well.
Very few chums around where theres usually a few chums around... >:(

Nothing coming in on the tide today, more bears than fish.

In regard to bears, keep your wits about you as there are more than a few grizzlies wandering around right now. I have a very good friend who is doing lots of grizzly DNA work in the valley and he has cameras set up in a few locations and is getting lots of pictures of g. bears. He found a kill site on one of the rivers ( not saying which river as I don't want some dick head to go up there and mistaking shoot a grizzly thinking it's a black bear) where a grizzly has killed a large black bear and consumed it. Same thing happened earlier this month with several grizzlies consuming a dead moose in the Elaho. You never know what's around so pay attention.
-
Who'd your friend working with? Curious. Must be fascinating work.
-
He works with what used to be called the Ministry of the Environment. Who the hell knows what they are called today as the Liberals keep changing their name.
-
That would be the Ministry of Earth, Wind and Fire. Not to be confused with the Ministry of Imagifacts, responsible for mining and other natural resource extraction.
If anyone is into this sort of thing, I've been having some decent days with egg patterns and trout in the Squamish watershed. If you're up for the trek further north, the Birkenhead area is great for this as well right now. I usually reserve this stuff for December and later, but it always produces early in pink years.
