Title: bass late spawning?
Post by: keithr on June 17, 2011, 12:52:17 PM
The bass I've been catching from St Mary Lake still have roe in them, and it looks to me like it is still some way from being ready for spawning . . . I thought they were supposed to have spawned sometime between April 15th and now.

I'm assuming you're referring to smallmouth bass, in which case they tend to spawn a little later than largemouth bass ( at least in their native ranges).  Spawn timing is more of a water temp thing and smallmouth enter that phase when water temp hits 15 C, again, at least in their native ranges.

They are small mouth.  If the bass really are very late spawning this year, I wonder what that means for coming years.  Fatter perch?
