Title: Herrling Island

Has anyone been to Herrling yet and if so, is the slough low enough to cross on foot?

I heard that Herrling was closed ... hopefully someone can confim this ...

Herrling has been closed for a couple years now.  It was one of my favorite spots......before you could drive to the other side of the island, but they closed it down due to the off-roaders littering and wrecking spawning grounds.  Now you'd have to go for a bit of a hike, bring bear spray if you decide to do so.  You could try the front of the island, but if its too low i don't think you'll have much luck.

Was heading home from Alberta last Sunday and saw jet boats and fishermen. I never feared the bears when I fished there a few years ago- only the mosquitoes!

i pulled in there the other day ,the road is blocked right by the rail tracks under hwy 1 but there was about 15 vehicles parked there so i assume you can walk out, its just an even longer walk than before.

It would probably be a walk that is about the same as the hike to Scales bar. With only 15 cars, it wouldn't be as crowded. We have hiked in from just across the tracks in the past, in neoprenes no less :-[ It was a decent bar to fish if it wasn't for the continuous noise of dirtbikes and quads.
