I got there at the end of the meeting as I was at Axe the HST meeting so I can not help you out. I picked up some handouts that I have not reviewed yet but if I find something interesting I will share.

I was told this morning at the long table the limits hole on the Chilliwack will closed permanently -great news to anyone who cares for fish.  Was also told there would not be a recreational fishery for chums on the Chilliwack next season.
Again, this is what I was told by someone who attended.

Good news on closing the limit hole.

Chum fishing on the Cheddar was always a by-catch when fishing for something else - never caught one worth keeping anyways.

Chris:

Did you have to put old in that sentence? On another note, I was checking the sporting good stores for those rubber hooks
that you like to use for steelhead but couldn't find a one.Hope your ratio improves.

I have not heard of no chum fishing on the Vedder/Chilliwack. Doubt very much this will happen.

I understand a recommendation was made to this effect at the meeting. Apparently there was a very  low return to the system last season.

Hi Chris, I talked to our rep for the FVAGA and he said that they accepted a recommendation for no retention of Chum. You can still fish but have to release all Chum.

Getting pretty bad when we can't even keep Chum.

When I read this originally I was given the impression that it was a permanent closure. I just read the drafted minutes.

The proposed chum closure for this fall on the Chilliwack River, which went through at the SFAC meeting is for this year only due to a couple of factors. Flood mortality in 2006 and low returns in 2007.

These points really need to be addressed when discussing otherwise it always gives people the impression that salmon area always steadily declining. It of course is true sometimes, but most of the time there are more to it than that.
