I need some feed back on the Sea Hawk II .
-
Is this what you're talking about?
http://www.intexcorp.com/boats_lake_seahawk.html
I've been looking for a place that sells these ???
-
I believe I saw one in Wholesale sports in Nanaimo. Apparently they are a good buy.
-
I have the big Seahawk- I love it. I use it as much or more than my 12 foot aluminum. You can put an electric motor on it or if you have to hike in a bit, it's not too bad for a carry.Surplus Herbies in Kamloops had them and that army surplus place between Clark and Commercial on Broadway has them I think.
-
great durable boats that will fit in a car trunk have had the original seahawk for a almost 7 years cant say a bad thing about it really.great inflatable
-
- one point (nothing is perfect) They REALLY expand in hot weather. I was up at Tunkwa in July and I kept noticing a bit of sag and stretch.
-
Does Walmart sell these in the summer months? I think I saw em there last july-august but I can't remember...I know they had a bunch of other intex brand boats.
-
amazon
Would like to buy one locally ;)
EDIT: Novabonker, is this the place you're talking about in vancouver? http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=army+surplus+vancouver&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=army+surplus&hnear=vancouver&cid=9567551795231187023

BINGO! I drove by there yesterday, but I didn't see any on display. Sears had them a few years ago as well. I suggest buying the "5" man unit. Comfortable for two big lugs and you can get the optional motor mount for a Minn Kota.

u could try canadian tire i know they had some seahawk boats

keep your eyes open in cosco got my sea hawk there few years ago

do you trust those inflatables? those who own them of course. Would you trust them on a lake the size of aloutte? or more for something like Whonnock?

I'd trust it on any lake given the right conditions its no worse then a canoe or small 12ft boat if u wouldn't take that on the lake u probably not going to want to take one of these inflatables out.
-
These are vinyl boats and are extremely easy to puncture.
They have multiple chambers so you're not likely to drown if you do puncture one of the sections. The inflatable floor means you may not even lose any gear if you have a disinflation event.
I fished out of a 2 man boat for years and wasn't worried, including on large lakes like Alouette. You have to be careful of stumps and you generally get wet launching and beaching the boat so as not to hit the rocks.
That being said I now fish out of a hypalon inflatable that is virtually indestrucble and would never go back.

They have 3 chambers- 2 for the hull and one for the floor. I do make sure I have a life jacket, but I've been in some blow ups at Tunkwa at the opposite side of the lake and lived to tell about it. ;D

where is a good place to shop for those hypalon inflatables?

I have an old Seahawk 5 that I haven't used for several years if you want it.
Not sure if it is still sea-worthy but I'll take a look.
I made my own electric motor mount for it - it flew with a 10lb electric because it has no draft.
Have since upgraded to a car-topper but it served me well for a year or two.
-
Thought I had an old ad for it on one of the other sites (with pic):

roughly how much did it cost? and did you buy one of their small boats that fold up into a carry bag or a larger model?
-
Is it the 400 "set" that comes with the paddles and pump? I may be interested if your local.
i have a intex seahawk 400 i wanna sell . me and my friend got one each last summer. nice boats . thought about getting a seahawk 2 but its a heavy boat to carry esp when you have to do a walk it to the lake . like this model cause its light 38 lbs , sits low in the water which means you dont get blown around like crazy without an anchor and two 6 foot people can sit on each end and lay back without touching feet feelss good to do that when you have been fishing for 3/4 hrs.

paddle are at the bottome of the lake (not very good ones )and it doesnt come with a pump , i use two chargable pumps i got at canadian tire one for inflating one for deflating, hand pumps dont give u the max air inside takes plus it takes too long ,the vinyl is thick and for deflating it sucks the boat of all air making it flat and very easy to fold. so i would invest in a couple if i were you. i'm living to ny till sept but the boat is being stored in van at my friends house > close to the pne <
I see....I'll probably pass cause I'd really like to have the full package instead of having to buy everything separately.
-

I bought a 12' Achilles with air floor that weighs 130lbs. I keep it packed up in its carry bag most of the time.
It was roughly $3K.

Bump!
A few weeks back I picked up the Seahawk II from the "Gorilla Army Surplus" store downtown for $380.74 total. I haven't had a chance to take it out on the water yet, but I have pumped it up to see what it's like and it seems like a nice boat for TWO people w/gear, it claims to be able to hold 3 full grown people and a kid but ideally two grown men and fishing gear. My only gripe about it is that it's the old model which has the rod holders on the bow and stern versus the new style (shown here: http://www.intexcorp.com/boats_marine_seahawk_II.html) that has both rod holders on the stern which would be the cats arse for trolling ...as well flat square-ish seats (which I actually prefer over the new round style).
Note: Gorilla Army Surplus also carries the "Seahawk 400" ($169 or $189 not sure) as well as the "Mariner" which is $599. They have the motor mount for em too which are $79.

These style are a WAY better option, like the Aquamarine stuff.

Those aren't seahawks!!! :P the Fish Hunter boats look well made, in comparison to the intex stuff. I seen a nice one at the Army & Navy store in new west for around 4-$500.

What a disappointing day I had on the water yesterday!! It was my first time taking my Seahawk II out on the water, all was going well till about mid day when I noticed the floor of the boat seemed to be losing air, but after further inspection it appears that one of the seams in the floor split apart and now there's a big bulge on one side as you can see in this picture I took below. Looks like I'll be trying to get a refund or a new one. I'm thinking of possibly getting the Intex Mariner instead seeing is how the floor use a hard plastic/vinyl insert instead of a inflatable floor, however it does have a inflatable "keel", I don't know if that would ever have the same or similar problem happen. I paid 380 total for the seahawk II, and apparently the Mariner is like double the price so I might have to look into something else instead.

I know lots of guys who are very happy with their Aquamarines.
http://www.aquamarineboat.com/index.php?mode=kat&id=3
I believe they are in Richmond.
-
Like I said, you are WAY BETTER OFF with one of these style of inflatables;
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/boa/1731570037.html
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/boa/1737308547.html
or the Aquamarine stuff if you want to buy new.
Seahawks and Intex are garbage.

I understand what you're saying, the only problem with those boats is they're not as compact to fit in a average car trunk. Being that Gorilla Surplus doesn't give cash refunds I'm pretty screwed now, I can either exchange it for another Seahawk II or go ahead and get the Mariner for a bit more money.
-
Regarding the size;
Here is mine.
Fits in the passenger seat of my Mazda MX5.
My electric, battery, rods, reels and tackle fits in the trunk.
Bought for $300 locally, and built like a tank comparatively.
-
Hmm, nice.. How many people can it hold comfortably?
-
Fits two, MAX. Its usually just myself as I have another boat more fitting for additional people.
But mine is the smallest sized inflatable available @ 7 1/2 feet.
I would have loved to have found one that was a foot longer, but this one does well for me. And the price was right.

For that price you can't really go wrong, I paid 380 with tax for this stupid Seahawk junk...what a joke!
-
Sorry to hear of your experience.
I would DEMAND that gorilla refunds the money. Considering it was the first use of the boat.
Policy/Schmolicy - they should do the right thing.

I might call them back in a bit and let em have it, apparently for me to exchange this thing the manager has to take a look at it and they want me to go all that way to Vancouver (east Broadway) from surrey just to drop it off and the manager will get back to me the next day. Why go TWICE to hopefully get a replacement if the manager approves? This is total BS!!
-
I can see that they want examine the boat. Given that it is an inflatable and very prone to "user error" creating the problem.
If/When they take a close look at the boat, they should stand by their product, and deal with the distributer/Manufacturer to rectify things on their end. Meanwhile offering you a refund.
You should send them a link to this forum and show them how many people are reading this.

My thoughts exactly, I told em exactly what happened and that I didn't overload/over inflate or neglect the boat my any means. I don't know what kind of operation they're running seeing as how the manager isn't in the store. If anything they should send it back to Intex or something, cause it's clearly defective.

I suggest contacting Intex directly. I've had good success stepping over bodies and going directly to manufacturers when I got BS. Amazing how fast things can get done if you voice your concerns in an "I won't take no for an answer" way. I recently purchased a 3000 dollar machine for my business- it broke through no fault of my own, the distributor claimed he had to charge me for the repair and he would credit me in 30 days if it was approved. I paid it, got on the phone to the Arizona based company and let loose about a seriously flawed policy. The funny thing was I was about to buy another machine worth many thousands more - they lost that. Any how, refund the next day ;D ;D ;D

Did you buy that inflatable new? or find it on Craigslist? Is it a hypalon material or heavy pvc?
-
Online ad yes, not Craigslist though.
Not Hypalon. But it is in very good condition, and is air tight. Its been holding the same air pressure for over a week now in my garage. Couldn't be happier. I have been looking and looking for just the right price, and found it. I missed out on a couple others that crept up by not being around in time to buy it.
When one pops up that is priced well, go to see it QUICKLY, as it will get scooped up.
Or, don't be as cheap as me (lol), and grab a new one from Aquamarine in Richmond. I think its about $650 for the same size as mine with the airfloor from there. With a warranty and customer support. I took a flyer on mine, with no recourse.
-
If anyone is looking to buy one ,walmart ( Lougheed Mall ) has them for $ 120 .
-
So I re tuned the Seahawk 2 to gorilla surplus yesterday, apparently the store owner came in sometime today to look at and make sure it was a manufacturer defect and not accidentally/intentionally caused. One of the employees just phoned me prior to posting this, stating that the owner confirmed that it's a defect and I can get another one or upgrade to the Intex Mariner for an extra $300 or so (it's $599) and the Seahawk 2 was $380 with tax. Instead of demanding my money back, I'm just gonna bite the bullet and upgrade to the Mariner. If anything goes wrong with it that's beyond my repair, I'll be kicking myself in the my friend LOL...ah well it's not the first time I've been screwed buying garbage quality products.
-
So instead of trying to get out of a relationship with a retailer that has PISS POOR customer service policy.
You decide to do the opposite and invest MORE money with them?
???
PT Barnum said it best.

Pretty much, I don't have the means to be running all over the countryside looking for another boat. The customer service there isn't exactly piss poor, it's just stupid how they don't offer refunds on returned items...it makes no sense in this day and age. It'll be the last time I deal with this store, that's for sure.

Just curious how you like the Mariner if you got it?

It's pretty good, would be excellent with an electric motor on it. I found that if you have three people in it on sitting on the provided seats, it's really awkward to paddle...ideally two people + gear. The extruded plastic floor is also a nice feature, it gives the boat a fair mount of rigidity. I wouldn't recommend trying to stand in it if you're a heavy person though! I'm actually considering possibly selling it, now that I've got into float tube fly fishing....it's a little more car-trunk friendly :)
