Title: Size of hook
Post by: Jace on October 21, 2009, 04:57:17 PM
I have been fishing in the stave for chum and coho.
I went and picked up some size 4/0 hooks, before i was using smaller hooks.
4/0 isnt too big, is it?

4/0 is friggin massive.  Thats what I'll use when bar-fishing springs on the Fraser.
I wouldn't go any bigger than size 1, even for chum.
I've been using size 2 hooks all season.

4/0 is huge.
You won't catch coho on that size.
1/0 max.

LOL 4/0 !!! Those hooks are for bar fishing big spin and glos on the fraser

I use #1's and #2's for everything and have no problems at all and there plenty large enough

haha, 4/0.  What are you fishing for sturgeon.  No 1 or 2 hooks, 10lb leader is all you will ever need.

benefit a snagger/flosser/bottom bouncer. Go get some #1's some 12lb, and float fish above the fish so they need to take the bait to get hooked

Probably, most bottom bouncers use bigger hooks.

The largest hooks I have are #2 hooks, and they work fine for me.  Even when fishing with roe.

I use size 4's for fishing wool, sometimes a size 1 for wool if im after springs cause they will straighten out a 4 alot easier. I use 1/0 gammies for fishing with roe because i like using bigger chunks most of the time. and i will use a any of these bigger hooks for pink worms because i tried the small hooks with them and ended up with lots of ripped worms but no hookups  >:( tied some with bigger hooks and resulted in a beached fish  ;D

the more you fish the more you will find certain hooks and hook sizes you use for certain things.

just like when im fly fishing the hook sizes are all over the places depending on what im targetting and what type of technique im using. ahh the lovely sport of fishing, who the hell ever said fishing was a cheap sport ???

It could help if you hook him in the right place...
