Title: Gotta go! But where? PLEASE ADVISE
Post by: twocoaster on September 14, 2009, 01:01:05 PM: I need sound advice on where to go for a desperately needed and long overdue stillwater fishing trip. Please provide me with some ideas, preferably first-hand knowledge if you can. Here's the needs list:

1) lake with at least moderate chance of catching fish 14"+ (primarily trout or char)
2) affordable cabin accomodations with wood stove or fireplace (I've been pleased with Tunkwa cabins in past, but would like a change)
3) within about 4 hrs max drive of Delta BC

I have boat and gear, so on-site amenity requirements are minimal.

I could likely go any weekend between now and Oct end, but sooner = better for my sanity.

Any advice on timing lake turnover, what flies are best, etc, is welcome.

Thanks, Tex, I will definately consider that. I know some of the DLR lakes are paid access - is Salmon? I'll also check the website when I can.

its got some big fish in the lake and i believe you get a boat included in your stay cost.

Roche is a good choice for cabins.

Post by: Tex on September 15, 2009, 11:32:51 AM: Salmon is a public lake. Not a pay to play like Corbett. Cabins are cheap, and the lake is small enough to be accessible just by rowing. Roche is a great lake, but it's bigger, and more expensive if memory serves. Nice fish in it though.

Should be okay as lake turnovers are normally when water temperatures are much lower than now. I think around 4 degrees C is optimal to cause turning,you'll be fine.
