I tried it a few times with only a few hit and no takers, but it was fall and lots of salmon parts around.
I have heard it works, they use it in the States..

I am a firm believer that anything smelly will work, given enough time in the water. Hell I've caught fish on crawfish, sculpins, squawfish, etc.

i usually use it outta the package from the supermarket.  i have at times put it in a garlic brine for the nite before fishing....seemed to work as good with or without a soaking n the brine.

we also use fish eggs and or worms.  but it could be costly if you have to buy them.

Anything will work once...... for multiple hook ups, use what is in the river at that given time.... these fish know what is there at this time and that is what works!!!!

Last year we fished the Fraser with freezer burned Chum wrapped up like a Burrito with the hook in the middle tied to a Dacron leader and a 23Oz pyramid weight - nailed a number of Sturgeon and beached one close to 7'...  Bummer with the new tag this year...  :D

I was reading salmon gills and belly work in the later months of summer. But what exactly are salmon gills and belly? Are the gills the actual red gill frills? and for the belly, do you mean the actual belly strips that are the bottom part of a salmon steak or are we talking about the guts of the salmon?

Thanks!

Was out on the Fraser today. All our fish were taken on dew worms.  ;D

Yes not the easiest part to put on a hook but they do work.

Belly strips are the bottom part Yes the fattiest part of the fish but some people use guts too.

Thanks I appreciate the answer. I know what to look for now =). Today I managed to land a 5 footer shore fishing using a 7 year old eulacheon hahaha. It was so badly freezer burnt it wasn't funny.

I am seriously thinking of buying salmon steaks from the grocery and using the bottom part. The price of eulacheon is criminal at $7.99 for 0.5 lbs. Edible salmon from the grocery is way cheaper per lbs than eulies....

Yeah I just checked a superstore flyer and salmon FILLETS are $7.23 a pound. That is less than half the price of eulacheons, lol.

You could always try catching a couple pike minnow, cut them up and try that  ;)

I know they use squid all the time on the Columbia River. The tackle shops down there even sell them in jars ready to use. Tried up here once with no luck.
