I Did find a few links that talk about it.

http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=372255

http://ilmbwww.gov.bc.ca/risc/pubs/aquatic/freshfish/fresht-20.htm

All the websites that I went to and read, state that ALL reports are Unconfirmed. Most of the links go back to the Ogopogo legend and have many people stating that the Ogopogo is a Lake Sturgeon.

Not much to go on Though!!

How would i go about catching one if there were any in there. Should i just put on a big weight then put some chicken liver or a minnow on the hook and drop it to the bottom of the lake and wait.

This site says that it is belived that since sturgeon are found in the Columbia and Fraser River the may have made it into Okanagan Lake through the Columbia system before the lake was dammed up in 1953.

There are many other sites around all referring to ogopogo but there is no solid proff of sturgeon in lake Okanagan.

I have heard and read rumours for a long time about this and all my time I have yet to see one nor any evidence anyone caught one. They could be there but I dunno it is a big lake but I am sure if anyone did there would be pictures. Maybe they are not targeted but I wonder if they ever did test fisheries if any have shown up?

I have also heard the same rumours about Nicola Lake, Shushwap lake and Kamloops lake and yet I have never ever caught one personally even way way  back in the day when you could use fin fish as bait fishing for burbot..

I was looking at some BC fisheries thing and it said that white sturgeon are native to skaha lake and Okanogan lake. Its certaintly deep enough at a 1000 feet and there are underwater caves running through the mountains. Again how would i go about catching one any ideas for a rig. what depth would they be at? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the reports come from 1969, the summer of love, when people did acid.  ::)

I've heard of people in their boat hook something and then have it drag them around the lake before there line snapped.

Remember that Sturgeon have been around for over 100 million years folks.
Anything is possible if these waterways were connected at one time, and in Sturgeon time thats a long long time.
Ive allways thought that Ogopogo was a Sturgeon to.

ogopogo is a beaver....hasn't anyone seen the video?   A friend of my dad's was an avid ogopogo hunter, amongst other insane (truly insane) things....he liked to bring handguns camping "just in case"......  nothing like dragging the kids and their friends out on the boat for a day and not letting them go in the water because "the splashing might spook her".

Growing up in kelowna, I thought it was fact that there were white sturgeon in the lake....and heard rumors of them being close to the bridge.  Who knows....I've never seen one caught or photographed there.

On the discovery channel a while back I was watching a documentary on ogopogo. Apparentally according to the documaentary a women saw something swimming up behind her child and pulled out a 12 gauge shot gun and took 2 shots at the mytserious wake. 2 days later they found a massive Sturgeon washed up on the lake shore with 2 bullet holes in it. I looked for this on the google but couldn't find it. If any one else can hopefully the can post it.

sounds like a crock to me....

who has a 12 guage handy while theyre out on the lake swimming?  who would take a shot with a shotgun with your kid so close? shotgun pellets would lose a ton of velocity the moment they hit the water.  I'm calling BS.

That Nicole and her brother probably do. Pack it along with the chainsaw.

Yes but there is no proof period of them being there. Just like with BigFoot, Ogopogo etc You would think there would be a picture somewhere to prove this and I have yet to see one or one tv show that has shown one in that lake too.

If they were in there someone would of caught one by now or some evidence like a dead one washing up or a baby one in a fishes stomach etc.

But to date there is not one shred of evidence to support this claim.

maybe the mom was duck hunting with slugs, and the kid decided to go for a swim

In the documentary the people have a cabin by the lake, the mom was on the porch and the fish was about 50 feet away from her kid.

Have any of you guys seen okanagan lake. Its huge and deep. Theres shafts running to 1,200 feet and caves going deep under the mountains. There has to be sturgeon. How deep do you think they would be at.
