Have you ever gone fishing and had your fishing line totaly stripped of your reel. I've had two Thompson river steelhead spool me, I was determined to win the battle but could'nt run fast enough and left it to late to snap them off. One fish I had my float up to my rod when he turned side ways and off he went. We estimated him to be 25/30 lbs. The most memorable experince was in the 1970's, we were fishing for springs at the mouth of the Stave river, being young and not to bright my partner and I were postioned in the middle of the railroad bridge. I had just tossed out my Jack Mack spoon when a passenger train came around the corner from the Maple Ridge side ( we swear he never sounded his whistle) We had enough time to jump into the other track but I did' nt have time to reel in. It was amazing how fast the line disappeared off my Silex. for a split second I thought about palming my reel but fortunatly did'nt. My line was gone in a flash. Once the train was gone we climbed over the rail and there stuck in the ledge of the bridge was my spoon. Walked down the track to the end of my line and reeled it back on.

Well, well, that's quite a story there Big Rob. However, I think the one we're all dying to hear happened much more recently. Let's see now... oh yeah, Crater Lake, GMC Jimmy, car alarm, heh heh... oh yeah - and a loon on the end of the fly line too I think... ::)
Then of course there's one about tenting, GMC Jimmy, being visited by bears... errr... cows... yup - it was a very Mooooving story indeed...
;D ;D ;D

Quite a number of years ago on the vedder I hooked into a MASSIVE white spring.. how big? Well.. after 1 impressive jump(in which the splash sounded more like a breeching whale than a salmon) it decided to go UPstream, and go it did! Once it was at the end of my spool(on a fullly lined quantum iron reel) it broke the 20 lb leader like nothing. I'm not convinced it really even knew it was hooked except for that initial jump.
:D

Danny (THE_ROE_KID) tells me how he gets spooled all the time.

good one.... :-\

I love the sound when a big vedder white is hooked, and it decides its goin back to the ocean.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. The best part is watching the guy who is getting spooled put his thumb on the reel line to slow the fish down, and ending up burning there thumb and losing the fish along with the line. ;D

bein' spooled is exactly why I always used a barrel swivel betwixt my main line and tippet on my CP...mainline 8lb Maxima...tippet 4lb Maxima...#14 or 16 Eagleclaw hook...ease the bigger fish in...straighten the hook on those you can't handle...or don' want(my main reason for the small hooks...I wanted steel...not mush)...course to run light line on big fish you need a noodle rod...never been spooled with this setup...;))

Last week up on the vedder I got a massive spring on it was running and the next thing I knew the spring jumped about 500 yards from me enough said.
-
Yup; cost me two fly lines too. Learned the hard way that nail knots between fly line and backing suck big time.
-
This one came pretty darn close...
I had about 6 wraps of backing left as the fish tried to make a break for it in a heavy riffle...
I finally gained on it, and won the 15 minute battle, what a fish that was!

once from a seal that grabbed a spring and the other was at the mouth of quatsino on a spring.Hard to guess the weight on a running fish but likely 50+

on the fraser fishing for springs, 50lb tuffline melted away from my abu 6500 so fast it was rediculous. broke the 25lb leader with 3 wraps of line left. Unknown fish on september 23 a couple years back on the thompson, either a white spring or a steelhead, what ever it was it didn't jump, it took the float down, i set the hook and the rod didn't wanna come up, stayed down, and then the fish went down river with me running as fast as i could, and then it was gone, broke the leader.
