Title: Vedder Canal Sept 24th
Post by: RalphH on September 24, 2007, 09:37:35 PM
A short day and I took a shot at the Canal after ok fishing Sunday. I was able to connect with a large school that must have just moved up from the Fraser and for about 1.5 hours had a fish on every 2nd cast or so until the sun got on the water. Some were very bright and one had a sea lice above the anal fin.

Wow i looked at the canal as i passed over and it looked dry
nice to hear someone getting fish there
I fished mid river today and hooked a spring (snapped my leader)
two Ho's one landed and kept (had for dinner yum yum)
and lots of clean pinks
I was hitting nothing at first even though i was going through the same area as the guy next to me(he hooked lots including this spring)

then i looked at what he had on his hook(the min jig)(sorry trade secret)
quick change and it went great from there

Why let one person's disagreement dictates what you post on the discussion forum?

I've lost count on how many people disagreed with me or more on all the fishing discussion forums in the last six years. ;D

I also lost count on how many times people replied to my reports with "nice fish!". They're nice, but constructive replies, even criticisms are preferred IMO.

Nice coho! ;)

Don't worry about the pictures as there are very few secrets on the Chilliwack Vedder. There is always lots of anglers at this time of year and there is lots of fish every where too. ;D ;D Just enjoy the experience of getting out on the flow.

Have to agree with Chris on this one. There are no secret spot on the Vedder. Make your own footsteps instead of following others.

I think every year there are a few secret spots that no one realizes are great spots because they were lousy till the river changed due to high water.

Bug pumper, you are bang on!
Last year's flooding made some tremendous changes to the river. Some honey holes of yesteryear are back, others are gone, new spots are everywhere. All it takes is a bit of exploring. Fortunately, most people tend to congregate at the more famous runs and holes, which allows the more adventurous among us to find some very fishable real estate away from the crowds.
What would we do if it weren't for KWB, the TB, Lickman, Peach, the Crossing, Tesky's, Allison, Limit hole, the Crossing and other mass congregation places? ;D

Yup exactly what you said. I as well am thankful for those spots as it usually keeps the crowds there and away from the spots that we have to walk into. Fished three ares on sunday and at first light there was only 4 of us on this entire run. The second area there was only 3 of us and we finished the day fly fishing a deep tail out on the lower and guess what that is where the crowds where just as we expected but since we where on the fly we had lots of room.

Britguy keep your posts and pics coming. Many on FWR enjoy you sharing your passion for fishing through great reports. The fishing newbies on this site will have lost you as a rich resource of fishing knowledge.
Don't let the lazy fisherman cause you to make a knee jerk reaction by pullling your pics. Just a suggestion on taking photos would be to take  pics ... one for yourself and one showing nothing to ID the spot you're at.

Went out for one last try for pinks in the lower fraser.  Started fishing around 6am.  Fished for 45 minutes with no luck.  Just about to leave and took one last cast.  My gold hammered croc hung up around 15 feet from shore...then it takes off with my drag buzzing.  Few seconds later the fish is gone.  Tried for another 15 minutes with no luck.

well seen as how this can't be a hot spot

Right now the fish are on the move, the coho will not sit in one spot for to long only for a bit to rest.
yup i could see the fish moving into where we were fishing
the bite would be on then after a while not much happening then in they would come again
you just need to find the holding spots

Thanks for your report Britguy. Keep them coming. We all enjoy reading them. There is no spot which can stay hot every day. All fishable spots can turn on & off depending on the fish run and your luck on the day you are fishing. This is particularly true for coho when they are still not in large number yet in the river.

Skillful hijack Britguy. I'll have to include the ubiquitous ego shot in my next report so I get a little more attention.
